"What is a soul?"

soul
/sōl/

Noun

The spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.

"What evidence is there that a soul exists?"

Well, Scientists thought maybe the soul was a physical thing, and therefor they thought it might have a weight. Rigidly careful experiments have proven that the body weighs a few ounces less in the moment after death than the moment preceding it. They've accounted for fluid loss, breathing stopping, escaping gasses ec.

;

This video is long, however it has very good evidence that souls exist. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, at least watch the first 15 min.

Duncan MacDougall is the scientist who sought to measure the mass purportedly lost by a human body when the soul supposedly departed the body upon death.

"His results have never been attempted to be reproduced, and are generally regarded either as meaningless or considered to have had little if any scientific merit. Nonetheless, MacDougall's finding that presumably the human soul weighed 21 grams has become a meme in the public consciousness, mostly due to its claiming the titular thesis in the 2003 film 21 Grams." -Wikipedia

The point of death does not change the weight of a person's body.

I did not watch the video, and you cannot allow another person to make your argument for you. Please make your own arguments.

Note that what most term the soul is actually a part of the brain.

In the old days a person was said to be demon possessed, a spiritual ailment. Medical professionals have pity on those cast out of their family because of this religious belief. Medication is proven to help illnesses such as schizophrenia.

Emotion, thought, reason, speech, and learning ability are clearly shown to be effected by the physical reactions in the brain.

In the ancient days, the heart was thought to be the center of reason. To give your heart to someone was the most intimate of gestures.

In recent days, science has improved so we know that this pre-medieval idea is odd to say the least. The brain is the center of reason.

The same can be said for the soul.

Im speaking of more of an internal type of soul, like inside of a person.

A lot of people use the word "soul" interchangeably with "person," and of course persons exist. But the question is whether they a soul can exist disembodied, or whether people have both a material and an immaterial aspect to their nature, or whether a soul is essentially immaterial. Many materialists believe in souls.
