This debate is open to anyone who wants to defend the safety of vaccines. I am not arguing that vaccines do not work at all. Vaccines can offer some immunity, but they do not work as well as advertised and are very detrimental to one's health.

I will be arguing that the risk outweighs the benefit for most of the vaccines. Vaccines such as the flu vaccine are dangerous and unnecessary. I will not argue that there are a few vaccines in other countries where the possible benefit may outweigh the risks, but here in America I believe that for the majority of people the risk outweighs the benefit of getting a vaccine. Con is here to prove otherwise. Good luck!

Vaccines are not very dangerous. Risks could include the risk of getting the virus from the vaccine, but this is unlikely and we have improved vaccines so much that this will happen less often. The benefits, especially for viruses such as polio, are very large and outweigh the risks. There are not so many risks in this case, and if you don't get the virus because of the vaccine I think it is a very good deal.

Vaccines do work well, first of all. Many people get vaccines yearly and while they don't always work they do most of the time. The vaccine for Smallpox, for example, completely eliminated the disease and now if we get the vaccine we don"t have to worry about it anymore at all. Smallpox is a lethal virus, but thanks to the vaccine it no longer is a major threat.

Second, there is no real proof that vaccines are dangerous and/or detrimental to one"s health. None. At all. The only negative results were either botched or completely fabricated. Vaccines have been beneficial so far and as long as they continue to be, getting vaccines is good for your health and safety.

Thank you for accepting. I look forward to a good debate.

Vocabulary:
ASD =Autism Spectrum Disorder
SLI = Speech and Language Impairment

First off I would like to restate that vaccines are dangerous, and are not as effective as we are told. Con said that "The benefits, especially for viruses such as polio, are very large and outweigh the risks".

Obviously no one wants to get polio, but there are two facts that most people don't know. The first is that polio is not as bad as most people think it is(95% of polio cases show no symptoms), and secondly polio cases and deaths were already declining before the vaccine was introduced in 1955. Meaning that it wasn't vaccines that saved us. The Polio vaccine is also far from being safe. Six New England states reported in increase in polio cases one year after the vaccine was introduced. Idaho and Utah halted the vaccine because of the major increase in deaths. [1]

When you contract polio people are always afraid of paralysis and the iron lung, but the vaccines didn't help it made things worse. In a span of about 15 years there was a major spike in cases of acute flaccid paralysis, because of the polio vaccine. It went from about 20,000 cases to 100,000 cases. Paralysis is what made polio deadly, and it's one of the side-effects of the vaccine. I would rather have polio than get acute flaccid paralysis. [2]

"The vaccine for Smallpox, for example, completely eliminated the disease and now if we get the vaccine we don't have to worry about it anymore at all." Again this is not true. Smallpox cases were already declining before the introduction of the vaccine.

From 1905 to the 1920's there were many years where more people died of the smallpox vaccine than they did of smallpox. Leicester one of the oldest cities in England gave up vaccinations during the 1800's while smallpox was going around and found that their mortality rate dropped to 5.1 percent mortality rate while the rest of the UK and her colonies had a mortality rate of about 8.75 percent. [3]

"Second, there is no real proof that vaccines are dangerous and/or detrimental to one"s health. None. At all. The only negative results were either botched or completely fabricated. " This statement is not true at all. In 1991 the Universal Hepatitis vaccine was recommended. Since the safety finding were mixed a survey of (1997-2002) data was done. The results showed that those never vaccinated or with delayed vaccination were 64% less likely to have autism. [4]

According to the Journal of inorganic biochemistry aluminum adjuvants in vaccines correlate with the rise in ASD. Using the Hill"s criteria, the data indicates that Aluminum in vaccines may cause ASD. [5]

The rise autism from the 1990's seems to be a mystery, but a study conducted showed that a 1% increase in vaccination is associated with 680 children having ASD or SLI. To me this a far from "no proof" or "botched" results. Vaccines are dangerous and we the people need to take another critical look at safety and efficiency of vaccinations. Thank you. [6]

Agreed on flu vaccines though.

Not really, it's done more good than bad. Like murdering smallpox and trapping polio onto the ropes preparing for the kill.
