yes they are most don't even have a college degree, why should they be paid millions for just being on tv and entertaning?

It's not as if there is a proper amount anyone should be paid anything. Salaries are based on the market. For instance, any one can flip burgers for minimum wage. Very, very, very few can make it to being a professional athlete. But here is the important point - they are being paid based on what people will pay to see them. People are willing to watch them on tv or at the theatre, I'm talking millions and millions. They are also willing to go to their games (athletes) and buy merchandise. If people (demand) thought it was too expensive or they had no desire to see them, they wouldn't. Since people pay x amount for a ticket to see either one, the money will go somewhere. Where else would it go? More to the big studios? Again, most are just taking what they get from the market in their respective economies. Many actors don't make a whole lot, because they are not in demand. A very, very few do, because they are in high demand. This is just basic economics.

Good point. but these people don't work a day in their life. There are millions of people out there who work 10x harder and should be the ones being paid millions

Limited space, I will try to make a few points very concisely.

1) They do work very hard. My sister is a struggling actor, so I have seen how much work can be put in for very little return. Here is one fact, both professions take huge risks. Many fail, so the risk vs return is high and the work is hard, because both fields are COMPETITIVE.

2) You use a lot of "should" statements. My question is who, if not the market, should regulate pay? Actors negotiate with studios, players' unions with leagues. People can pay ticket prices or not and this will determine top pay for each profession. Otherwise, the government steps in and tells private entities what to pay people. As this is not a defined role of the government, I do not believe they should be doing as such.

3) A college degree is a moot point in fields where education levels are not what the market pays for, it pays for talent. To say you should have a CD to get big money is ridiculous. Try telling Zuck or Bill Gates.

Reasons for voting decision: To clarify, I agree with "con" that actors and athletes are paid too much, even though it should probably be "pro", based on the title. Con presented no real arguments.
