By the late 1800s, contests which judged women solely on their physical appearance had begun to emerge as a form of entertainment. Today, numerous competitions of this kind exist all over the world. A beauty pageant or beauty contest is a competition that mainly focuses on the physical beauty of its contestants, although such contests also incorporate personality, intelligence, talent, and answers to judges' questions as judged criteria. The phrase almost invariably refers only to contests for women and girls; similar events for men or boys are called by other names and are more likely to be bodybuilding contests. Winners of beauty contests are often called beauty queens. Well in my own opinion, beauty contests are not degrading women hood. As every men has got right to everything in the society, so in a similar way women should also have a right to choose their own profession. By these beauty contests women can explore herself, also her confidence increases and can be a good role model in our society!

While beauty contests may not degrade women, I highly hate the idea of gender roles.
Is there any beauty contests for men? NO!!!!
So this reinforces negative stereotypes.
If men can be beautiful, and there are contests for them, then it won't reinforce stereotypes.
The stereotype it's reinforcing are especially that women should look pretty.
Chances are that they can also incite disease called anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa (especially in girls).
Last time I was traveling, I saw a few magazines that reinforce unhealthy behaviors.
For girls, this is that being "sexy" is being so thin. That is so ugly and so sick. I do not want a girlfriend to be "as thin as
For boys, this is taking steroids to have big muscle mass. However, taking steroids have a HUGE drawback.

Please please, it may only not degrade the women, but men too.
Please, I'm not saying you can't have beauty contests, but make some for men too.

Again, I reread your first statement and here's what.

This reinforces negative stereotypes.
Women = beautiful
Men = bodybuilding

Please do not reinforce stereotypes, as they are harmful. They separate people when they should be together. It may be more harmful than you think.
