I feel like dogs are better than cats. Firstly, whereas cats are lazy and rarely need to be played with, dogs understand humans better. They comfort you when you need to be comforted more than cats do. Also, dogs are less aloof than cats are which makes them the perfect companion. Although they do tend to be a little more misbehaved than cats do, they are more friendly, lovable and overall better.

I in past have owned both cats and dogs, and with experience, I'd choose cats over dogs any day.

Cats vary in personality just as dogs do, so I think that saying cats are more aloof and lazy than dogs is a blanket statement that can easily be disproven simply by comparing a dog that is considered lazy and aloof to a cat who is considered the opposite. While a cat may seem a bit more distant than a dog, I think that this is just an indication of a feline's natural independence. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't care for their owners just as much as dogs.

Reasons for voting decision: Arguments to Con because Pro had the burden of proof to prove that "dogs are better than cats." Pro failed to explain how the said arguments linked to "betterness," so I can't vote Pro on those grounds. Even accepting those criteria, Con thoroughly refuted Pro's arguments by showing that cats merely express affection in variant ways. I vote Con since Pro doesn't fulfill their burden. S&G awarded to Pro to counter dsjpk5's vote and famousdebater's vote (which, when added, give one point to Pro) - the votes are countered since they don't have RFD's.
