Football players are waaay overpaid. Is football necessary for America to thrive? No, in fact, the world would be a better place if there was no football. These greedy immoral pigs think they deserve lots of money because people love watching them. Their egos are way to big. The money they earn should be used for research in medical areas. Why should we pay millions to people who leave crappy examples? Should'nt the money go to people who actually deserve it (good examples to us.)? I contribute more to society as a little minimum wage worker than these people do thinking they are big heroes when they really aren't.

Football players are not overpaid. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar business. All of this money comes from fans (directly or indirectly through television deals) and has to be dispersed among the employees of the NFL. Now, paying the coaches, managers, trainers, doctors, and other personnel is important, as is front office positions such as marketing, events staff, etc. But byfar the most important to the success of the business are the players. They sell the tickets, they get put on posters, they drive the bottom line. They also preform a brutally physical job which most people simply aren't capable of doing, unlike a minimum wage labour job which anyone is capable of doing.

So why pick on football players? Why not the owners? They do nothing, and make more than all the players together. What about celebrities famous for being famous? Reality TV stars, heirs and heiresses, the Royal Family, etc. etc. There are plenty of people who make lots of money for little work. Should rich people pay much higher taxes than they currently do? Yeah. Should the NFL be classified as a non-profit, and therefore be tax exempt, despite making money hand over fist? Of course not. Right there we have put a bunch of money back into the tax pot for better services. But saying that "we" pay the players too much is stupid. They aren't government employees; they are specialists who sell their skills to the highest bidder. Its capitalism 101.
