A NFL quarterback is paid an average is $1,970,982. (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...) Put into perspective, an average lawyer is paid"$130,880 annually. (http://www.access2knowledge.org...). A doctor makes $180,850, annually. (http://www.access2knowledge.org...)"
That's sad, isn't it? Someone gets paid more to catch a ball, than someone who is saving a life. $1,790,132 more, to be exact."
Maybe this money goes to a good cause. That athlete probably has their own charity or foundation. But think again. Alex Rodriguez's foundation only gave 1% of it's donations to actual needs. (http://sports.yahoo.com...) Non-profits organizations have about 67% of donations go to charitable causes. (http://sports.yahoo.com...) 1% to 67%. How many gold plated toilets does one athlete need?

Professional Athletes are not overpaid. Yes, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, Lionel Messi and other professional players are paid more than $20 million per season for their contract, but the professional sport industries (NFL, NHL, NBA, NASCAR, MLB, BPL etc.) is a billion dollars corporation. A professional players need to be gifted, have an inner desire and be smart intellectually. In fact only about .08% of high school player play professionally in football and only about .03% of high school players play professionally in Men Basketball. According to USA today the median salary of an NFL player is $677,647 a year. It may seem a lot, but they spent more than 40 hours practicing, workout, study and game time. An NFL team make about $285 million last season alone, and how do they got most of those money? It's fans. So what else can a team do with $285 million in their business other than paying it to managers and professional players that spent most of their childhood life just to prepare themselves to be good in sport and were lucky enough to be part of the 1% or less.

They spend 40 hours....."
40 hours a what? week? Month? And doctors work 54 hours a week. (http://www.cbsnews.com...). Some football players don't even have full degrees (http://work.chron.com...), while a doctor has to have a (gasp of surprise) PHD."
"What else could they do with..."
Uh, I dunno, charity? Go into any major city and drive along a street downtown, and count how many people out there are holding cardboard pleas for help, housing, food and money.

Compared to what doctors do, in importance, it's pretty low

Do you think that line is the best representation of being an athlete? Catching a ball? That's it?

What was wrong with that line?

Reasons for voting decision: Con didnt present a strong enough or supported enough argument. Plus con did not sustain the BOP which was on con. Pro used rebuttals and debunked them well. Good debate. Plus con forfeited.
