Since I do not know if my adversary will make any more arguments I will keep my stance for now short and sweet and show why smoking laws are useful. I will focus on one main point and offer others if he chooses to respond and does not FF the following rounds. It helps mitigate the age in which someone could buy cigarettes. Limitations around the age at which we purchased cigarettes are a necessity. Some of the most damaging things in cigarettes and the products that are most damaging are tar, a carcinogen (substance that causes cancer),nicotine is addictive and increases cholesterol levels in your body ,and carbon monoxide can reduce the amount of oxygen in ones body. People that smoke are also way more likely to get cancer than people who do not, and smoking also increases the risk of over a dozen other cancers including cancers of the mouth, larynx (voice box), pharynx (upper throat), nose and sinuses, oesophagus (food pipe), liver, pancreas, stomach, kidney, bladder, cervix and bowel, as well as one type of ovarian cancer and some types of leukaemia. There is also some evidence that smoking could increase the risk of breast cancer. If there were no age limit on smoking children could get cigarettes and it would be a detriment to their health. Children are far more susceptible to diseases than adults as well. So this is not even an option in some ways. For our children's health and for the safety that it provides we must keep smoking laws in place. http://lungcancer.about.com... http://www.trdrp.org... |
