I saw that you recently debated this topic, but you opponent forfeited.
I would like to challenge you to another debate on this topic.

I don't think atheism is a religion, just like theism is not a religion, if theism is not a religion, why would atheism be?

first i would like to Thank you very much to start this argument.

"if theism is not a religion, why would atheism be?"

My reply: theism is not a religion, theism might be a part of a religion.

theism says we have a god.

atheism says there is no god, science is our belief on the purpose of the universe.

theism does not explain anything.

Def. of religion: a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.(second link)

using this def i say that atheism is a religion be cause it is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe.

Atheism is just the opposite of theism, theism is the belief in god, atheism is the absence of belief in god.
It doesn't make sense to say that theism doesn't explain anything, but atheism does.

Atheism has nothing to do with science, "science is our belief on the purpose of the universe." is not part of the definition of atheism neither of your sources actually have that sentence in them. Also, most atheists ( note: not all but the majority) don't think the universe actually has a purpose.

"theism might be a part of a religion."
Atheism can also be part of a religion. for example Satanism (Church of Satan)

" Def. of religion: a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.(second link)"
Like I said before, atheism doesn't say anything about the cause, nature and purpose of the universe. It's simply not believing in god.

In conclusion, atheism is not in any way more specific than theism, and atheism has nothing to do with science, this is a common misconception because the majority of atheists accept science as a way to explain how everything works, but even if you reject science you can still be an atheist.

Grayneer,
This is about atheism, not anti-theism.

Anti-theism can explain even less than theism can.

Atheism is a not a religion. Atheism is devoid of religious aspects. Religion is either or the belief and worship of a supernatural entity. Atheism is the rejection or refusal to worship or believe that a deity exists because of the lack of evidence. Atheism does not rely on faith or convictions to explain reality.

"1. atheism says there is no god, 2, 3. science is our belief on the 4. purpose of the universe."

1. God is a concept that I have not experienced in reality. Atheists do not claim that God does not exist but that the evidence to substantiate God is at best scant.

2. Science is not a belief based model. Science is a concept that is utilized to observe the world and assist us in learning about the world. Regardless of your belief(s) in science, the validity or accuracy of certain scientific aspects remain static.

3. Atheism is not a science based worldview, it is is however a reality based worldview, wherein our experience with reality via our sensory apparatus (audio, visual, scent etc..) provides us with information about reality.

4. The universe, from my perspective, does not contain a purpose, but rather an accidental causation which the universe is permitted to exist. This meaning that there is no purpose for the universe to exist, the universe merely just exists. Purpose is a human evoked concept.

What? No! Atheism is merely a lack of belief in a God or Gods. It says nothing about science.
