1. Banning Junk Food in School

A) Schools make money from vending machines that help fund several projects and clubs. By eliminating this source of income, you'd be taking away from profit that could benefit the kids on a larger scale, including money for things like sports programs which encourage a healthy lifestyle.

B) While you can't put a price on a kid's health, kids should be encouraged to learn healthy eating habits at home and learn to make proper healthy decisions. You shouldn't prevent kids who eat junk food sparingly or who are in good health from being treated to snacks in school because of an unhealthy few.

C) Kids aren't the only ones who eat junk food via vending machines in schools. The adminstration consists of teachers, staff workers, janitors, secreatries, etc. who might want to enjoy a snack.

2. Banning Junk Food Advertisements in the Media

A) This is a blatant infringement of company's rights to advertise any way they see fit. If you'd like to use cigarettes as a precedent (i.e. cigarettes are forced to not market explicitly to a younger group), I disagree with that jurisdiction to begin with so I'd be happy to debate it.

B) Lack of advertising = lack of profit = lack of business = lack of jobs = lack of taxes = bad economy in general. Companies should be given the opportunities to flourish and succeed. Advertising is not doing anything explicitly wrong; people are free to make their own decisions as I've said. Moreover, if you stop junk food from being advertised, you could or should potentially outlaw all kinds of advertisements including all food chains (especially fast food which is notably unhealthy), beer commercials, etc.

C) Even if consumers eat unhealthy sometimes, it's not indicative that they lead an unhealthy lifestyle. Many people in my family have a sweet tooth and yet their bodies are in great shape.

My opponent has been online recently, and yet has failed to post a rebuttal to supplement her already weak first round argument. I guess that means she concedes this debate. Thanks anyway, Pro. Maybe we'll meet again sometime.
