Beauty pageants are detrimental for children. According to Women"s News/Columbus Dispatch, 2.5 million girls compete in beauty pageants in the U.S. every year. These children"s competitions attract children that age from about six months old to 16 years old competing for crowns and cash. Children are getting the wrong idea about how important their looks are to them. Children are becoming conceited and very pressured/stressed. "Playing dress-up on the pageant stage costs parents financially, and some experts argue that is can be harmful to girls, teaching them that their self-worth is measured by how pretty they are."(ABC News). Beauty pageants are very destructive and are a terrible idea for children.
I personally think that beauty pageants are an incredibly shallow thing to put our children in! Thousands of dollars go into there dresses make up and personal trainers, for what IF they win. It also teaches them beauty is more important than intelligence and deprave the sole of reality because in reality you may be the one with the crown and money but the people that "lose" have the love and support of other people. We are put in school and told that we should not bully other kids on appearances but all these kids that is what they are taught. I am not saying all these people will judge people on there appearances but that is what there parents are teaching them to be shallow and condescending.
Why are you debating along side of me? You are supposed to be con....anyways...
Children are getting the wrong message about the importance of their looks. These young children are being judged on how beautiful they are. The show "Toddlers and Tiaras" on TLC unquestionably shows this with the big dresses and makeup the young girls wear with the judges ranking them on their beauty. Some young contestants even wear false eyelashes or "flippers", which are false teeth used to cover up missing teeth in the front of their mouths. According to Deseret News, over " of the ten year old girls that are in U.S. beauty pageants have reported being on a diet. These are young children that are not content with their own bodies. This can lead to dangerous behaviors like eating disorders. This is very serious and is very damaging to the girl"s bodies. It can have a lifetime effect on these children just because they don"t feel like they are pretty enough.
Okay truth be told I don't agree with beauty pageants either but they do help with some things other than self regulation. I have been told it helps kids in there performance when there older they wont be afraid to be up in front of a crowd. We know we all do fear that but they already have experienced it and they loved it, every minute of it. Not all people see everything there is to be in a beauty pageant there is good and bad but what I am trying to say, most kids get some bad makes because of refusal to read of act in a play that the teacher has assigned and that is because of stage fright and then your child's grades go down the tube. People should realize not everyone is perfect and that doesn't mean that all kids that enter that beauty pageant will either be insecure or superficial no it doesn't it just proves in life there are winners and losers and it doesn't matter which one of those you are because you will always get the love and affection from your parents and loved ones. People always don't judge on appearance. For you people out there who think there are only pageants like glitzy pageants that you have to wear flippers and fake eyelashes there is more there are natural pageants were kids just go on stage and have a good time and show the judges natural beauty that comes from the inside. Beauty pageants aren't all just flippers and spray tans and all that they also focus on inner beauty that is what matters most!
