Each year in the United States, illegal immigrants travel across borders and bear children in America. Under the 14th amendment of the Constitution of the United States, the children of these aliens are considered citizens of this country. I support this because the children are born on American soil so therefore, they are Americans. They will most likely live better lives here than in their native countries, which is one of the reasons their parents travel through such challenging conditions.

The children of illegal immigrants should not be considered citizens of the United States. The 14th amendment was created originally to give all slaves citizenship after the Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857) case which said blacks could not be citizens. The 14th amendment today is being abused; most illegals that come to America and have children do so to not be deported back to their country of origin. The children of illegals that are granted citizenship also receive benefits with out paying into the system, by this I mean their parents who are undocumented workers pay little in taxes and as such don't deserve to have the social programs our country offers. Citizenship from birth should only be granted those who are the offspring of United States Citizens.

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to juridiction thereof, and citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." Although this amendment was originally created for African Americans, it was also for the betterment of everyone else who fell into this category of citizenship. No human should be deprived of life, liberty, and property just because of their parents' immigration status. They, themselves, are Americans and should be treated as such. Without the 14th amendment, these people would be deported back to a country they have never known.
