I think allowing blind people to drive cars on the road without the ability to see is wreckless and should never be allowed. Blind folks can wait until technology develops to the point where cars can drive themselves, if they do not want to walk themselves to places they want to go.

How dare you deny blind people the inalienable and sacred American right of car driving? They're people too! To deny them the right to drive is to deny them the right to be an American. Blind people too deserve the feeling of air rushing by them as they streak their convertible down the open lanes of the American highway, savoring the delicious taste of freedom as they cruise. Shame on you, telling blind people they shouldn't be allowed to drive cars.

Plus, if we allow our blind people onto the roads, it would make driving that much more exciting. Don't you get bored driving past the same types of people? Imagine now if we unleash blind drivers. Suddenly our daily commute becomes that much more exciting. You never know how the driver in front of you might behave, would he see you? Would he suddenly careen left or right? And of course as an added bonus, since driving becomes a lot more unpredictable, people would have to drive more cautiously, making our roads safer for everyone.

MoonDragon... you're a rockstar! Thanks for accepting this challenge.

Driving is NOT A RIGHT; it's a priviledge.

<>

I agree. They are sightless people that are better suited to walking and remaining as passengers.

<>

I'm sure the blind people in all the other countries in the world are heart-broken by this, as I'm sure they were all applying for U.S. citizenship and being able to drive a car was a critical part of the criteria for their acceptance as Americans. Phooey!

<>

If you place a fan directly in the face of a sitting blind person and turn the fan on high, they'll experience the same joys without side-swiping other blind drivers.

<>

I drive in Los Angeles every single day. I don't need anymore excitement on the roads. Trust me.

<>

I am inclined to agree, but the major problem that I have with this plan is all of the cars that are just stalled in the middle of the road because the blind peoples' cars will be constantly running out of gasoline. They won't be able to see the gas gage drop to empty and will stumble out of their cars and get slammed into by other drivers. It would be such a mess to clean up!

No. No driving for blind people until they can see. That is safest!

Mmmmm having my arguments soundly defeated, I shall now run away and present entirely new arguments along an entirely different line of thought in my closing argument.

1. There are no negative consequences

Blind people should be ALLOWED to drive cars because it would not actually encourage any of them to get into cars. If I take off my glasses, which are about | | thick, I'd be blind. Yet since I'm not officially blind, I can still drive a car. But even though it's legal for me to drive a car without my glasses, I wouldn't cause I wouldn't be able to see the gas gauge.

2. It would make blind people feel better

Blind people feel bad enough as it is. They can't read Manga, watch porn, or fight crime. Unless they have super hearing. There's no point making them feel worse. None of them would jump into a car and start driving, but if we let them drive they'll feel happy. Banning them from driving cars would only make them feel bad.

3. It would make YOU feel better

Haven't you always wanted to help out blind people? Don't you feel sorry for them as they walk the street with those dogs and sticks, bumping into things on their way down the street? Well now here's your chance to help make them feel better about themselves. Yay!

"But even though it's legal for me to drive a car without my glasses, I wouldn't cause I wouldn't be able to see the gas gauge."

I'm not sure this is true. I believe every state actually uses a person's vision as a basis when handing out the liscence. Those required to wear glasses to see the eye chart are given a restriction on their liscense. In New York State it is called a B restriction. I don't know the name of it in the other states, but it exists. A person that has such a restriction and gets caught driving without glasses or contacts can be fined.

It's always fun to create new arguments in the final round of debate. Makes them unrebuttable. ::nods sagely:: =P

-Admittely created a new argument

-Made Baseless assertions about blind people in general.

Funny case, but I must unfortunately vote against it. :D

Despite the fact that MoonDragon's last round was rather amazing I'm still going to have to vote for Solo since he had no chance to refute it and clearly refuted the 1st round before it.

By the way, "No. No driving for blind people until they can see. That is safest!" Do you know a lot of blind people getting better? =)

My abilities to squirm well have become somewhat sluggish (HA! Puns are fun!), so I'm hopeful that someone really good can give me some better methods to explore.

I'd take this one up, but I'm pretty sure you'd see through my tactics. For the heck of things, I may try it out tomorrow.
