Pro

I would like to argue with a conservative or a libertarian here. No liberals or leftists.

I'll argue that a restoration of the Constitutional Monarchy in Brazil would be better than if it continues a Republic.

First round is for acceptance

Second is for main arguments

Third and fourth are for rebuttals and, if wanted, new arguments

Fifth round is for rebuttals and conclusion.

Any questions or requests please leave on comments.

First I would like to thank Con for accepting this debate.

Here are my arguments.

1- Historical argument

Before the November 15th 1889, Brazil was a stable and respected country with it's Monarchy. When the Republic came, it soon began the several coup d'etat, political corruption and dictatorships. This was unimaginable in the times of the Monarchy.

2- Corruption

The political corruption in Brazil is amazingly high. Politicians need help from economical and political groups to get elected. They tend to steal the tax payers money to pay for their help in the election. A monarch is not elected, therefore he doesn't need a the help from this groups and doesn't need to corrupt himself.

3- Long term thinking

Presidents and politicians usually think on the next election, while monarchs think on the next generations. Monarchs are more likely to support long term politics so the country is better for the next generation, while politicians usually support populist politics.

4- Stability

Monarchies are more stable than Republics. The monarch does not belong to a political party, therefore his only interest is to help the country. The politicians will give more attention to the monarch's advice, since he is neutral. This neutrality avoids conflicts between the king and the other powers, favoring unity instead of division.

Well, here are my main arguments. Your turn.
