I will be brief because it needs little explanation.
America is 17 Trillion ,300 Billion in debt, that number is climbing at an historic pace. For America to survive it can not continue to provide Free Food, Free Housing (HUD). Free Phones (Lifelink), Money (Welfare), and now Free Health Care. Nearly 50% of America is currently receiving some type aid from the Gov.
17 Trillion, 300 Billion in debt !! the well is dry people. Time for the American people to sink or swim on our own... at least until we can reduce the debt.
America is currently dependent on Obama hand outs.....oh right, my bad....that has been Obama and the DNC's plan all along

I accept the debate as it basically encompasses the main ideological difference between the Right and the Left. My position on this comes from a philosophical and political view more than it does an economic one though I am fully capable of understanding the economic issues involved here. I believe that not only is America capable of caring for the poor but it is essential for economic and social restoration.
True America is in huge debt, higher than it has ever seen however it is important that we consider why this is. So America is currently in a recession alongside Europe it also referred to as the lesser depression, in short it"s a state of economic crisis. Carl Marx argued in the communist manifesto that capitalism has an effect creating economic growth for the rich before leading to a crisis; this method would simply repeat each time the crisis would get increasingly worst. This is what we are seeing now in the western world, threats of entering a triple dip recession are mounting, something that has never happened in human economic history.
How does this relate to caring for the poor? Well a socialist viewpoint can suggest an alternative method of governing that creates more stability, this includes regulating banks and preventing bankers from making loans and investments that are considered high risk this was arguably the main cause for both the great recession that we are in now and the great depressions of the early 20th century. It also promotes higher taxes on the richest in society which can allow the government more freedom in its spending; furthermore a socialist approach would reduce the level of spending on military assets which reached $800,000,000 in 2011.
As you can see there are ways to attain what is necessary to care for the poor of America and these methods are in fact necessary to secure the economic prosperity and make it so we do not need to increase the debt we are currently in. There is a lot more to this argument but I"ll save that for round two and three for now.
