I've always been against media sensationalism until I have read deeper into the subject. The media sensationalizes important stories to get them heard. Ebola for example, it is a massive issue in other countries, but would be really take notice if it didn't involve us in some way? To get the story heard more, to show how big of an issue it is it had to talk about the possibility of the disease invading the west or the story wouldn't have been as big. For these reasons I'm totally for media sensationalism because it gets the important stories heard.

Pro makes the point that media sensationalism influences how the general public treats an issue. It is with this same point that I will argue against it ever being justifiable. While it is true that "important" stories should be given attention, it shouldn't be up to the media to dictate whether those stories really are important or not. Ebola may have been important to other countries, but it being important to those other countries doesn't justify it being regarded with importance in countries where it simply isn't as important.

Should a charity meddle with data in order to gain support? Should the promise of a scientific study be over-embellished in order to gain funding? I don't think so.

What I will highlight is that in all cases, the truth is the best option, or at least the most honest option. The general public should be left to decide for themselves what's important, without having to base their decision on lies or even an obscured truth (honesty is the best policy).

I would have posted an all-out argument, but it feels pointless if there's no one to try and falsify or challenge it. So please just vote Con as Pro obviously forfeits.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro had an interesting opening round, but unfortunately forfeited the rest of the way, leaving Con's initial arguments standing. Therefore arguments to con. Conduct to Con for Pro's forfeits.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct - Con. Pro forfeited nearly every round which is rarely acceptable conduct in any debate setting. S&G - Tie. Both had adequate spelling and grammar where applied. Arguments - Con. Pro failed to maintain his BOP or give any counter-arguments/rebuttals by forfeiting multiple rounds, thus Con wins arguments due to being left standing unchallenged. Sources - Tie. Neither utilized sources in this debate.
