The bell rings, something happens at school, or you forgot you have a team meeting after school. How do you contact your parents if any of those things happen and there are no phones in the school near you? Cell phones have been banned from most every school all over America. Many people, including parents, think that they should be allowed in schools. They can be very useful most of the days...

Con

1)No phones in the school
Every school at least in america has land phones. and for schools that aren't in america they probably don't have cell phones anyways

2) Cell phones have been banned.
Cell phones have not been banned cell phones has just been banned to use during a class period. in an extreme emergency they would let you use it.

3)Parents believe they should be allowed in schools
they are allowed in schools! just not allowed to be used inside of the classroom...

Oooooooo trust me I'm not.... And actually u r incorrect! At most schools in Tennessee u r not even allowed to keep them in ur backpack..... If we were caught after school with a cell phone without our parents we would get a AUTOMATIC detention. And actually the school wouldn't let us use our cell phones even if it was a big emergency if we were even allowed to have them in school
daboss

Con

they might not be able to use them in tennesse but your resolution states cell phones should be allowed in SCHOOLS and in the status quo they are allowed in schools. maybe not all schoools. so all three of my points still stand.

At most schools they are NOT allowed.....and you cant say that ur three points still stand because I am debating this in the state of Tennessee and they are not ALLOWED in schools here...

Cell phones in schools can be very useful at many times. They can be used for educational purposes such as: calculators, note taking and to contact a person who is sick or doesn't get the assignment off of the board. Also, it's been proven that children who listen to music while working can study and do work better. Most every cell phone is able to play music. For that reason, children can get work done with a better grade and they won't be talking as much to other students.

Many times there are emergencies at school and if the power goes out, the phones there may not work. If there is an emergency how would students be able to contact your parents? They could just simply use cell phones to tell parents that they are ok or to ask to be picked up. If students forgot homework, or maybe a big project that was due today, students could just call a parent, or someone else, to come and drop it off. Also if there was a family emergency students wouldn't want the office to know first!

Many students have sports practice, club meetings, etc. after school. If coach's call off practice how would parents know to come and pick their children up when the school closes? Maybe a student was absent last week and missed a test, they could just call their parents and tell them that they're going to test make up today. If a student was incited to a friends home, so they could just call his/her parents and ask for permission. Things like this happen every day, so it could be very useful.

Having cell phones in school are very useful. They help students learn and be safe. Why ban them from schools for that reason? The fire alarm goes off, no phones work, call for help with a cell phone. There is no reason to ban them.

1)TOPICALITY
A.The resolution states "Cell Phones Should Be Allowed In School" and she now changed the resolution to cell phones should be allowed in tennessee schools.
B.Topicality is a voting issue and if she tries to argue that when she typed it that's what she meant then it should not be taken into consideration

REFUTATION
1)at most schools they are NOT allowed
althought they might not be allowed in tennessee her resollution states in schools. not in tennessee schools so i have a card here from desmoinesregister.com showing that only sixteens states have the RIGHT to ban cell phones. not that they already have banned them.
"Sixteen states have laws that restrict cell phones and other devices in schools, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures."

2)Can be useful
they can use them for calculators and take pictures in 34 different states.

3)emergencies
they can be used for emergencies in 34 different states.

4)let parents know
they can get ahold of their parents in 34 different states.

NEW ARGUMENTS
1)she stated "They help students learn and be safe. Why ban them from schools for that reason?"
she stated they already banned them from schools.. but yet she states it as if they haven't banned them yet

i did not say that they havnt banned them yet im saying "why ban them" it can mean two different things... 1) they already have been banned 2) they r banning them....and for my argument im saying number 1.....and u cant use tennessee against me because im TALKING ABOUT JUST TENNESSE and again u only said 34 states so what happened to the other 16? they are already banned and one of those states is tennessee
daboss

Con

1)TOPICALITY
she still has not answered my topicality argument and since i did claim it as a voting issue she should automatically lose the round

2)They've been banned
yes i understand that.. but from only 16 states

3)they are banning them
until they have no cell phones in school whatsoever her resolution should not even be tooken into consideration.

so with that i strongly urge a negative vote and i thank lexi for her time.

Now I agree that the votes on here get a little messed up but Daboss2 did not concede anyways. he said it "IS allowed", not that it OUGHT (should) be allowd. Basic debate terminology, just saying know the difference between what is allowed and what ought to be allowed.

happens all the time... It's a combination of A) voters voting based on simply the title/who's debating, and B) voters not reading the entire argument. If you concede 3 rounds into a 8,000 character argument, honestly, how many people are going to read that far into it anyway?

Sad thing is that I really agree with Pro, however this is a debate so therefore Con won. Con actually had arguements and actually addressed the opponents arguements as opposed to the Pro completely ignoring that.

Tip to Pro - Think about your subject before you type it, I personally try to find flaws in the wording of a resolution, if you keep changing the wording of it, it can't really apply. You can't just throw Tennesse in there last second ya know?
Also, better grammer. Don't use "u" for "you" and capatalize the I's lol. Just saying cuz grammer is one of the votes.

hmm. Well you obviously both voted for yourselves, and are now tied. Who am I to break a good tie? Pro, you are obviously emotionally distrought about not being able to use your phone in class. Honestly, what do you think would happen if they were allowed? A class of 30 kids all texting away like no one's business... pure chaos. You should concentrate more on learning what the teacher has to say then texting your girlfriend about how hot the guys are.
