Communication is more than langauge because it helps every day life. For instance language is built up from communication and language is just a way of speech. Some people cant speak proper langauge : Babies,Disabled etc.

I would like to start off by noting that my opponent's resolution quite logically unsound in its construction. Communication cannot be "more" than language because communication and language are not varying amounts. I am assuming that is not what my opponent meant so for purposes of this debate I will humor her, but the actual resolution is untenable.

My opponent proposes that communication is more than language because "it helps every day life." I can't see how helping in everyday life makes one thing more than another thing. Is being able to drive more than knowing Latin grammar because it helps in everyday life? No, for two reasons. The first, as I have noted, is that the relationship "more than" is completely inappropriate. More importantly, practicality is not the only or most important trait that can be measured in something. Furthermore, it seems that language helps quite a lot in everyday life. Note how here language is our sole means of communication; we cannot convey information to each other by any means besides language via this medium.

Going on, language is not "built up from communication." I have no idea what is meant by this exactly, but it doesn't make any sense. Language is the default means of communication for humans. All human societies have a form of language. Human infants appear to have natural language acquisition devices, or mental processes, which allows them to learn a language at a very young age so they can communicate. Communicating with a baby that has not yet learned to talk, you will notice, is very difficult.

This extends what I am going to say about my opponent's last sentence. It is true that some people do not speak a language. Have you tried communicating with this people? It is a futile endeavor indeed.

That will be all for this round. I am going to wait and see if my opponent comes up with something more substantiated.
