Assertion #1: in 1974, court-ordered busing was the only strategy that could have desegregated Boston"s public schools.
Give other opinion and give choices.
Violence
Where you live is your choice so the schools aren"t really segregated (by law)
Assertion #2: students and society benefit when more children are able to attend racially integrated schools.
Surveys might not be the most accurate way of getting answers.
Only looking at African Americans and Latinos.
Self-esteem could come from something else.
Race should not be used as a basis for school assignment.
One of the problems is that for 50 years we have worried of desegregation but not enough or bother looking at the dropout rate.
Parents were mad because they"re kids were moved from school like chest pieces
The parents want better schools and no matter the racial makeup of the school.

Affirmative Assertion #1: In 1974, court-ordered busing was the only strategy that could have desegregated Boston's public schools.

Evidence: Blacks and whites did not want to mix so they needed high power to create balance.

Evidence: The black community needed a better quality education.

Evidence: Since there were segregated neighborhoods, kids attended their neighborhood schools.

Affirmative Assertion #2: Students and society benefit when more children are able to attend racially integrated schools.

Evidence: There will be less bullying.

Evidence: No ethnic group will have more power.

Evidence: Children will be less lonely if there is a balance of races in schools.

Affirmative Assertion #3: Courts have the power to reduce the effects of racial discrimination.

Evidence: Courts created equality in Boston school so the judge gave back control to Boston.

Evidence: No one but the judge was able to desegregate schools.

Evidence: The community needed time to get used to the court orders regarding desegregated schools, but it worked eventually.

Questions for Milly:

how would the courts reduce the effects of racial discrimanation?
Do you really think that kids wont feel lonely if there is a balance in schools or classes?
How do you know that there will be less bullying?

Answers to Milly:

they can maybe burn the bus or flip it over or many others.
becuase everyone has the right to choose where they want to go to school.
i blieve discrimination happens in many ways some may not just be discriminatoin and kids would know about it or have it in schools.

Carlos' Rebuttals:i dont agree with affirmative #2 becuase the students can form gangs and groups so the less the better they will know eachother and get along with each other.

affirmative #3 i dont agree with this becuase a judge does not go to school cant see with his own eyes what really goes on in the schools or classes kids can be making up or lie of what they lie so i dont agree with judges taking over and having power of racial discrimination.
