Cyber communication is progressive not problematic.

Alicia Kozakiewicz was just a normal 13 year old. She went to school, had a big family, and was alittle shy. She just started having a FACE BOOK. She met a girl named Tyra. They both exchanged school pictures. Tyra was a red haired 13 year old living in Virginia. Alicia talked to Tyra about common problems and how to solve them. She spent most of her time with her parents and didn't have a lot of friends. She was smart enough to make the honor roll and pretty enough to do some modeling, but she often felt awkward and self conscious. But online, Alicia was very different. She was confident and in control. She found friends and fit in, and she started communicating with people she didn't even know.

"My mom would come in ask me who I was talking to and she wanted me to go outside with friends. But I told her that these people online were my friends." Alicia said, "There's this feeling of being invincible and of being able to control your own world."
One day Tyra told Alicia to go outside of her house after dinner. Because of teen curiosty she proceeded out side. There was just 1 problem. The girl that she always wanted to see was really a 38 year old man named Tyree. He grabbed her by her hand and shoved her in the trunk of his car. When they arrived to his condo, he put a collar on her neck and shoved her in a cage that chained to the bed. For the past 4 days she was abused and raped repeatedly. On the 4th day the man gave her food, which she thought would be her last. She heard a bunch of footsteps then a kick on the door. Alicia was very scared then she realized that the FBI came.

This is because of Cyber Communication.

Thanks for the debate PollySholly, sorry it took so long to reply. I've been busy with my first mafia game on DDO, and other debates that deadline were before this. I hope provide you with a thoughtful, first debate. Good luck! Let's begin...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I negate that "Cyber communication is progressive not problematic" due to fact that the benefits of cyber communication far outweigh the harms. For example, when looking at my opponent's case, I think of "Cars are more problematic than progressive because they have been used in some instances as the transportation of kids who were abducted." Or in her case, one instance. She ignores the benefits of cyber communication such as easier advertising, quicker way to get things answered, and just the overall contentment of the world. I will build my case around this.

1) This Face Book story lacks in probability/magnitude

I ask my opponent to provide a link or source for this story, but nevertheless, it still lacks in probability. People get abducted for other things as well, such as walking down a sidewalk or going to school. Saying that cyber communication is more problematic that progressive is false because that would be saying that the benefits of cyber communication outweigh the harms. So far my opponent has only provided one type of harms, and one instance at that. Just ignore this argument until she either A) Backs it up with links or sources, and/or B) Gives a little more analysis of this argument concerning probability or magnitude.

2) Cyber communication benefits are as listed:

[1]
What is good for you?
The use of the Internet offers a variety of benefits to everyone who is willing to use it. The enormous amount of information available and the many uses one can have through the internet have made it the most valuable tool in various settings of a person's life. The Internet has an enormous amount of publications added on it every day and it's evolving as the most powerful source of information. Also, use of the Internet has made jobs easier and oversimplified tasks that would take an enormous amount of time before. Moreover, the Internet has become a great tool for avoiding the hassles of the bank, offering the chance to make the transactions quickly and safely. It also offers a powerful source for shopping and the easiness of having your products delivered straight to your house, should you decide you do not want to go out. Furthermore, the widespread use of the Internet has opened new areas of jobs in all countries and expanded the availabilities of working from home. Last, the Internet is one of the most valuable tools in educations since it provides an enormous amount of information and is the greatest source of reference for educators and students. The electronic libraries are of utmost importance for University students looking for scientific information for their courses. Another major benefit of the internet is its ability to minimize distances and provide communication services efficiently and without any cost. In general, the Internet is a multi-tool with applications on every aspect of someone's life.

THE INTERNET (R) EVOLUTION
The available material, programs, websites and other services of the internet are multiplied every day, revolutionizing the technology being used. Its applications grow exponentially and it would be impossible to outline everything in this booklet. The most important aspect of the Internet evolution however, is that its exponential growth allows it to ease and transform people's life and increase their knowledge.

THE PRECIOUSNESS OF TIME
Some people say "time is money". Some others say that time is precious and should not be wasted. Whatever applies to you however, one thing is true: Today's needs and demands of society have taken over our time that feels it's not enough for doing everything we need to be doing every day. The appearance of the Internet saving matter came as a life saver for many tasks that would take days to complete before. The ability of the internet to store materials, its ability to calculate instantly almost anything, and its worldwide application databases had made tasks much easier and less time consuming in almost every industry on the planet.

THE INTERNET BANK
The advanced technologies of the internet managed to free people from the hassles of losing an enormous amount of time waiting in the line to be served at the bank branches. Internet banking is the easy way of dealing with bank transactions safely and quickly. Internet banking offers a wide range of transactions that can be done including bill payments and transfers. Internet banking is convenient also in that it is available twenty-four hours a day.

THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET
Did you ever find yourself in a position that urgently needed to go out and buy something but was not in the mood or did not have the time to go out and do it? If your answer is yes, then the internet can solve your problem. The Internet enables you to buy anything you need from the comfort of your own house. Many supermarkets take online orders and deliver the stock within the day at your doorstep. Many consumer stores offer online purchases about almost anything you can imagine (shoes, clothes, apparel, accessories). Online shopping can save you time and money since it offers a wide range of specials in much cheaper prices than what you will find in the actual stores.

THE UNEMPLOYMENT AGENT
Another benefit that the internet has brought into our lives is that ever since the internet has been introduced, new areas of jobs and careers have opened up to the public. Web designing, computer technician and programmer, are among the many that are found at their peak demand for employers. Almost every company nowadays, needs to have a website that promotes its products and patents that web designers are among the most highly requested professionals needed. Furthermore, consultants, sellers, dealers and all sorts of professionals are needed to promote and help people over the internet. The training needed is of high education and career opportunities through the web are exquisite. Housewives, mothers and disabled people, can now have a chance to work from their house and earn money that would otherwise be difficult to obtain.

THE TREASURE BANK
The biggest benefit of the internet can be found in the educational sector. Educators can obtain learning material from it, prepare courses online and deliver audio/visual information to students. For instructors it is a valuable source for referencing material and enhancing the knowledge of their students. The Internet provides a great place for conferencing and collaborating with students from all over the world. Students can search for information regarding their school courses via electronic libraries who offer a great variety of journals and scientific articles. The resources available over the net cover almost every aspect of the school curriculum and students have a valuable machine for enhancing their knowledge and expanding their assigned work.

SO CLOSE…YET SO FAR AWAY!
One of the most important benefits offered from the wide applications of the internet is communication. The internet managed to eliminate distances and provide people with a unique opportunity to talk, watch and have fun with their loved ones, friends or acquaintances. Chat rooms, messenger services, emails and conferencing programs are the most common uses for communicating over the internet. People can enjoy the benefits of the cheap communication and maintain close contact with loved ones from all over the world.

Due to these overwhelming benefits, I urge you to negate "Cyber communication is progressive not problematic". Thank you.

CYBER TERRORISM
Cyber terrorism is a controversial term. Some authors choose a very narrow definition, relating to deployments, by known terrorist organizations, of disruption attacks against information systems for the primary purpose of creating alarm and panic. As the internat technology increases, rates of cyber terrorism increase. Groups, or just plain individuals threaten citizens mostly by cyber communication by texting, or by a plain chating website. These leads to something called Cyber Bullying (I will discuss this this later on). "The premeditated use of disruptive activities, or the threat thereof, against computers and/or networks, with the intention to cause harm or further social, ideological, religious, political or similar objectives. Or to intimidate any person in furtherance of such objectives." This definition was created by Kevin G. Coleman of the Technolytics Institute. Another form of cyber terrorism is identity hack or credit card hack. On website like Ebay people got get credit card hacked.

CYBER BULLYING

"Cyberbullying involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others. -Bill Belsey
The National Crime Prevention Council's definition of cyber-bullying is "when the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person"StopCyberbullying.org, an expert organization dedicated to internet safety, security and privacy, defines cyberbullying as: "a situation when a child, tween or teen is repeatedly 'tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted' by another child or teenager using text messaging, email, instant messaging or any other type of digital technology." Other researchers use similar language to describe the phenomenon.
Cyber Bullying tortures many kids each year. In September 2006, ABC News reported on a survey prepared by I-Safe.Org. This 2004 survey of 1,500 students between grades 4-8 reported:

42% of kids have been bullied while online. One in four have had it happen more than once.
35% of kids have been threatened online. Nearly one in five had had it happen more than once.
21% of kids have received mean or threatening e-mails or other messages.
58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than four out of ten say it has happened more than once.
58% have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful that happened to them online.

A 2006 survey by Harris Interactive[9] reported:

43% of U.S. teens having experienced some form of cyberbullying in the past year.

Similarly, a Canadian study found:
23% of middle-schoolers surveyed had been bullied by e-mail
35% in chat rooms
41% by text messages on their cell phones
Fully 41% did not know the identity of the perpetrators.
Unlike physical bullying, electronic bullies can remain virtually anonymous using temporary email accounts, pseudonyms in chat rooms, instant messaging programs, cell-phone text messaging, and other Internet venues to mask their identity; this perhaps frees them from normative and social constraints on their behavior.
Research had demonstrated a number of serious consequences of cyber-bullying victimization.[4][5][6][7] For example, victims have lower self-esteem, increased suicidal ideation, and a variety of emotional responses, cyberbullying back, being scared, frustrated, angry, and depressed.

CYBER STALKING

Definitions

Stalking, as defined by the criminal justice system, refers to acts such as following, viewing, communicating with, or moving in a threatening or menacing manner toward someone without that person's consent. It entails a pattern of harassing behaviors intended to frighten, intimidate, terrorize, or injure another person.

Statistics

8% of women and 2% of men have been stalked at some point in their lives (National Institute of Justice, 1996)
Stalking seems to be more prevalent on college campuses. In one study between 27% and 35% of female students were stalked and between 15% and 18% of male students (Feemouw, Westrup, & Pennypacker, 1997).
In one study on a college campus, 1 in 10 students reported having experienced online harassment from either strangers, an acquaintance, or a significant other (Finn, 2004). Sexual minorities were especially targeted.

Cyber stalking is alittle like Cyber Bullying but less severe. This is basically when someone uses stalking behaviors which include spying, sending notes or gifts, surveillance, threats, unannounced visits or calls, psychological aggression and coercion, attempting to scare or harass the person being stalked, and even physical and verbal attacks.
Cyber stalking is a variety of behaviors that involve (a) repeated threats and/or harassment (b) by the use of electronic mail or other computer-based communication (c) that would make a reasonable person afraid or concerned for their safety. Cyber stalking can include repeated emails or instant messages, flooding victim's e-mail box, sending viruses, using victim's email to subscribe to unwanted listservs; sending misinformation to chat rooms; and sending victim's information and photos to sexually-oriented sites.

Just to take note of, my opponent not only fails to refute my arguments, she never brings up her original one. This should be seen as a drop on both mine and her case. For that I urge you to disregard her original argument extend mine that:

Now, take note that she spends her next round bringing up new arguments that 1) Is extremely abusive brought up tis late in the debate. She should stick to her original argument. 2) Absolutely no warrant except "wikipedia". That's like me saying "Google".

It is now obvious that you will be negating the topic "Cyber communication is progressive not problematic". Thank you for your time.

My opponent has forfieted her last round, leaving all arguments unrefuted. Here are the reasons your voting Con.

1) Logically speaking, the harms that I have presented for cyber communication far outweigh the first scenario she presents in her case. She goes on to present an abusive new argument in the second round, but not only do my arguments still trump hers, she never extends those arguments. So vote Con because Con had more convincing arguments.

2) Vote Con for conduct, seeing as I attacked everyone of her points, and showed good conduct. She however, drops all my points, brings up new arguments, and forfeits the last round.

3) For spelling and grammer, I will have to say tie. A lot of her arguments look copy and pasted (If you look at her profile you will see that's not her typing style), but never the less, tie the spelling and grammer vote.

4) For sources, vote Con. Instead of citing her sources, she puts "wikipedia". That's like me saying "google". Give Con the sources vote.

Thank you for whoever votes on this debate.
