Ok, so you wanted to be part of the tourney. Nows your chance; my opponent unfortunately dropped out, so If you want, you can go against me or I will proceed and go to the next round of the music tourney.
These were the rules of the round I was going do, these rules will be the ones for this round with you.

Rules:
1 piece per person.
1st round is acceptance
niamc will go first in R2
Any instrument(s) can be used.
Any piece can be played, both sides can play the same piece but at each other's discretion.
The piece can be any length in time.
Be sure to post the link of your recording in R2.

Good luck!
BradK

Con

I accept, good luck!

Ok, this is my piece. The theme from the William Tell Overture.

The piece may be short but I think this is made up for because of the complexity of fast bowing, fingering and timing.

Con

This is my piece. Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas

I just stuck with the intro solo, and outro solo for this.

Wow, that was a quick debate. Good job to both people. It's nice to see a violin in the competition. I thought about breaking mine out. There are a couple of tunes I thought about doing.

Um... you can at your own risk.
If you do, just say what effects and loops you used in your piece to clear any confusions.
I remember one guy who did this but didn't say what effects he used and lost conduct points or something, it was a bass guitar performance.

I really don't know, I don't what to say

Loop pedals record what you played, and then play it back enabling you to play over yourself. The rule "The performances can only be of you! (you being a participant)" didn't say if it that doesn't include "you from the past". I would assume non-musical signals created by you from the past would have to be allowed because the mic will pick up reverb. "Delay", another form of echo, would also be allowed I'm assuming. But delay is kind of tricky because it can be musical, or it might not be. Musical delay would be something like "whitewash" by Buckethead, where the echos form notes in the melody. Non musical delay is just an echo that isn't synchronized with the melody in any way.

Also what about modulation? Stuff like phaser, flanger, chorus, wah-wah, tremolo? My opinion is that all non-musical delay and any modulation and distortion should be allowed. Never thought of this until I started looking at some people's videos and saw what kinds of things they were doing.

I have no idea what looping is?

This wasn't covered in the rules and is a bit ambiguous... is looping allowed?

Reasons for voting decision: I think both of you did great. Niam's piece was interesting and I loved the fast timing. BradK's was also very interesting and I loved it as well! You both put effort for this and good luck in the rest of the tourney! (BTW, you both look alike...)

Reasons for voting decision: 1. I am an official judge for this tournament. 2. Both contestants played with precision and obvious passion. Kudos to you both. 3. I appreciated the speed and timing of Pro's piece. However, I was not as compelled by the chosen song and it was quite brief. Con, on the other hand, chose a longer piece with noticeable range that was more engaging. 4. Con clearly knows how to rock out with his cock out. 5. Vote to Con in a very compelling debate.

Reasons for voting decision: Both contestants did a fine job, but I was more interested with pro's performance. But I'm giving a point to con for a good job as well but I'm giving pro 3 points for doing a better job IMO. (FYI, I can't play either instruments so I'm just going off of what seems interesting to me).
