Dance is not a sport heres some reasons why:

1. A true sprt such as football, basketball etc have clear winners there is no arguement weather or not a team won because you can't argue as more point or goals were scored. Howerver in dance the 'judges' of the competition may say dancer no 35 won. But if i got another set of judges and they say dancer no 15 won. Looks like we don't have a true winner.

2. When you think about what are the 4 most important things sports have in common? Techniqe, Stradegy, Physical and Mental. Which do dancing cover, all but stradegy. What stradegy is required in dancing other than the stradegy of tying a neet little bow on the end of the point shoe?

3. Schools aren't recognizing dance as a sport if they are dance should be taken on during sport or PE classes rather than having a seperate class for it, if it was considered widely as a sport

4. On shows such as the X factor, Britian got talent etc they don't see dancing as a sport because if they did they wouldn't put singers up against dancers and you there is no way singing could be classified as a sport

5. Alot of you will debate against my view and say 'dancing requires a high level of fitness, strength, etc and more than alot of other sports' however when i look at the girls in my school not one of the dancers has gained strength from dancing and you can't honestly say dancing requires so much strength but doesn't build it.

6. A sport that requires strength should require strength all over the body not just in the legs where dance supposedly does. For example netball you gotta shoot and pass the ball it requires minimal strength in arms it requires stregth in legs for obviously running. And on top of that it requires body strength to be able to push past defenders. However dancing requires leg strength nothing else.

Dance has to be a sport. I know a lot of people say this, but we first have to define a sport. A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others. Now, that reminds me of dance. There is activity involved, there is a dance team where they go around to competitions around the world, there are rules, not everyone is great at first (requires practice), and there is always a risk of injury. The fact that dancing is expressing emotion has nothing to do with the reason for it to be a sport.

Dance is comparable to any other sport - you name it! I'll just pick...rock climbing. They both are dangerous to a certain degree, they can both be extremely competitive, they both have professional role models, they both require many practices and rest days, and both of them have people starting at the bottom and working to the top. People are naturally able to run, jump, throw...etc that's why those events aren't sports. People have to learn how to dance and rock climb. That's a fact.
