Death Penalty . should legal in all 50 States i will let my opponent have the opening argument.

Thank you, Sam, for this interesting topic.

The death penalty is barbaric at best and hypocritical at worst. I will bring religious and logical reasoning.

1) How can the jury possibly be able to convict someone to death? How can they possibly know all the facts? What if in a year from now new evidence will come to light that the accused is innocent? What shall we do, bring him back to life?! While if that person were incarcerated, he would be freed and allowed to live out his life.

2) If the government were to start executing people, then citizens will start taking the law into their own hands and kill people that had supposedly commited murder.

3) If the government were to start executing people, it would justify the actions of the KKK, Hamas and other barbaric, murderous groups-they would claim that just like America kills for crimes against humanity, so too those groups kill for their alleged crimes against humanity (being African-American, Jewish etc.).

4) Taking a life as justification is barbaric, and if America initiates that punishment, then America is barbaric.

Resolution negated.

I agree, no judgment by any court is absolute. But if a heinous crime is committed with all evidence directed toward conviction, then that criminal must be sentenced to life in prison without, and i mean without parole, to protect our society. This leaves your option of future evidence regarding the case viable, as the convicted could be released if evidenced ever proved the conviction to be wrong.

My opponent's resolution was that the death penalty should be legalized. He has not rebutted any of my reasons as to why the death penalty should not be legalized, and has even given a proof for my first reasoning. He has also supplied an alternative way to penalize those convicts, thus saving me the trouble.
Penalize-to subject to a penalty, as a person. http://dictionary.reference.com...

The resolution is negated.

slamminsam , you jsut shoot yourself in the foot , you basically admitted that life in jail is a better alternative to the death penalty , contradicting the resoultion.

also ben , you say that if the goverment were to start "killing" people using the death penalty , the people would start vigilante justice , incorrect , notice how cases of mobs killing suspected murders are extermly rare in U.S.A , and the usa has legalised the death penalty ( dont quote me on this figure) in 37 states i think out of 50.
