The U.S. should ban the death penalty altogether.Reasons include the death penalty being a waste of money, it being inconsistent in judgement. To explain this further explanation is needed.
The death penalty is a waste of money. As Chairman Bil Ryan stated, "Over the past 22 years, the taxpayers of Illinois have spent more than $800 million to send nearly 300 men and women to Death Row." "Out of these people," he continued, "only 12 were actually killed." If the death penalty was banned it would a lot more money.
Determining the who gets the death penalty is very inconsistent. According to a journalist from the Chicago Tribune, "Timothy Mc Veigh was executed was execouted in 2001 for the deaths of 168 people in the Murray Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City. "Zacarias Moussaoni was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the September 11 terrorist attacks, which took more than 3,000 lives." Obviously the judgement is wrong.

We believe that the death penalty should not be banned based on three reasons: The punishment should fit the crime; There has to be enough evidence; and, the inmates behavior in prison.

First, we think that the punishment should fit the crime. The 8th amendment prohibits excessive fines and bail, as well as cruel and unusual punishment. By using lethal injection it is not cruel or unusual punishment (8th Amendment), therefore if a criminal murders someone then it is not cruel to give them the death penalty.

Next, we believe that there has to be a substantial amount of evidence and evaluation before someone is sentenced to the death penalty. "Before finding Degorski eligible for the death penalty, the jury deliberated Wednesday for a little more than a hour, nearly as long as it took jurors to convict him." Also, "The defense attorney alsp emphasized that Degorski's conviction did not make his eligibility for the death penalty a foregone conclusion."

Last, we believe that the inmates behavior in prison affects the outcome of the death penalty. "Under the watch of the Bureau of Prisons, Mr. Wilson manipulated staff members to his advantage, intimidated weaker and vulnerable inmates, and even carried on a month's-long sexual relationship with a female staff memeber, which resulted in the birth of a child.

Yes, some people could be wrongfully convicted, but that rarely happens because of the amout of evidence needed to comvict someone. Yes some forms of the death penalty are not ethically right, but 36 out of 5- states use lethal injection which is not as cruel as the electric chair or a firing squad. Yes it is not right to kill another person, but if you killed someone why not have it done to you.

I feel like gloverhonorsd did a good job on elaborating. Gloverhonorsc didn't have enough evidence to support their cause or what they were trying to prove. The chronological order that gloverhonorsd used was extremely effective. Gloverhonorsd had an overall organized paper unlike gloverhonorsc.

I think gloverhonorsc should have gave an explain action of their quotes to clarify the point they were trying to make. They also should have added more evidence to support their claim. I think more evidence would have made their argument a lot stronger.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro's case was better organized and formatted, so I give him S/G. Since there was no direct clash, I won't evaluate the arguments. Conduct's even.
