I've been thinking about what I want to do with my life and one of the things that came up is professional poker player. If I DO go into that, how am I going to feel when I have to change my occupation to "other?" I want people to know what I do. I would accept being able to type it in (unlimited "options"), but having only 23 options simply does not suffice. It's not a BIG problem, but something that needs to be pointed out. I am ready for anyone that thinks otherwise.

1) Professional poker is not a common career, ergo, whereas some such as PRO might benefit (in the future for PRO), the majority would not, thus, there is no real reason for the webmaster to waste time appealing to PRO since he'd only have to worry about the qualms of the minority.

2) An extra function would be a waste of time as if PRO wanted others to know about his career, he could describe it precisely in his profile (just as anyone can for any career).

Ergo, topic negated.

I'm not saying that because of me you should add one more, simply that you should allow for ALL careers to be expressed. There are millions of types of careers, why should we only allow for 23 possibilities (one being "other")... This is why I add "such as" to the topic. The main part of the topic is to ADD more careers. I would feel better with my actual career to be up not just other if I'm pro poker player or scientist if I'm a nuclear power plant worker of some sort. We need specifics:)

1) My point concerned the staggering minority. The list covers the fields of the majority, thus, a majority gets benefits. Can't please everyone

2) One must note that 23 fields (not jobs) are listed. This proves that the purpose of the list isn't 2 let others know EXACTLY what your job is, thus making the 23/1,000,000 jobs complaint false and irrelevant.

3) My suggestion that PRO could simply describe ANY career he wished to describe in his belief (as the webmaster intended) has been dropp

If I were a professional poker player, I could be listed under Artist, Self-Employed, Travel, Other, and maybe even retired. None of these things fit it well enough than simply poker player. And what about Artist, that could be a movie director, painter, sculptor, author, etc. Everything can be described as "art". What I'm trying to get at is that these vague terms describe NOT your occupation (as it's listed) but rather your GENERAL field of work which is wrong. Both MIN. and MAJ. benefit.
Logical-Master

Con

Last sentence in PRO's R3 (excluding "wrong" part) describes my second R2 point precisely. The "occupation" section is not meant to provide others with your EXACT job, but rather, give others a basic idea of it. If a user wants other users to know more about their occupation, then this can easily and clearly be described in one's profile (a point which PRO has addressed at no point in this debate). Minority don't benefit as listing every possible career is nigh-impossible (and a waste of time).

Since we want to benefit the most possible people, let me suggest something that supports the resolution. Have your occupation be an open box. This allows anyone to put whatever they want. There is NO way that someone could feel left out because of an open box option, therefore it is the best option. And since the resolution only specifies "more options", it fits perfectly. What could be "more options" than every option? There would therefore be no general BS and everyone could be happy!!!
Logical-Master

Con

I concur with benefiting the most people, but the status quo does just that. PRO thinks what he is urging is new, but as has been insisted throughout this debate, users already have a means of doing what PRO is talking about and that is posting and explaining their career (to their hearts content rather than being limited to small box as PRO would like) in the "About me" section of their profile. Because of this, changing the occupation section's purpose would be a waste of time.

Vote CON! :D

They said Team debates were going to be one of the new features way back in March. Guess they abandoned that idea. :(

I think that the con is totally a stuck up person who I love very much (unconditionaly of course). If you want to debate me I for shure will add a win to your tally board but if it is something I want to debate yep shure I might give it some thought. I"m almost 140 pounds now and almost six feet. How would you look apon a pineapple lieing on the ground? Would you feel sorry for the pineapple or would you yell at it vulgarly? I think that Pro is setting a better agrument and states things more clearly for us hill billies. Con makes no sense to me and I hate M & M's.

Yeah, I don't really think I lost but at the same time, I don't really make my performance was up to snuff either. Heavy elaboration is my bread and butter.
