Con

By accepting this my opponent accepts BoP, and will write an argument in the first round in an effort to meet the BoP needed to show dictatorship is not just better than democracy but instead much better.

Preface:

I accept BoP, and would like to thank my good friend Actionsspeak for challenging me to this thought provoking duel of minds.

Definitions:

Dictatorship:
1. Government by a dictator.[A1]

Dictator:
1. A ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained power by force.

Arguments:

1. Democracy leads to a divided society at odds with itself. While the ideal "True Democracy" may consist of everyone voting on laws and ordinances themselves that form of democracy is not present in the modern world and is hardly practical. This results in the representative democracy emerging, where each man votes for someone to represent him and a defined group of his countrymen. This leads to the formation of political parties, each representing a core belief system such as the Republicans representing fiscal liberalism and social conservatism while the Democrats represent liberal social ideas and socialist fiscal ideas. [Note:Liberal, Socialist and Conservative are used in their classical sense, with Liberalism representing the modern concept of libertarianism or individualism while conservatism is based on traditional power structures. In this context Socialist economic thought refers to the system of progressive taxation being used to give social services to the less fortunate.] These party divisions and the fact that when one group is represented the other is not combine to create an atmosphere of tension and disharmony. Instead of acting as a unified nation state political ideologies and party platforms mold the folk of a nation into opposing blocks that constantly bicker and argue.

2.Dictatorship is more efficient. In a democracy a decision has to pas through multiple levels of voting and vetting before it is either approved or struck down by the top elected official of that country. This process can often take a very long time. For example every so often there is a battle in the U.S. congress over whether or not the debt ceiling should be raised, no conclusive answer has been provided for this question and instead a decision has been postponed again and again for several years now. In a dictatorship a decision would never take that long to reach.

3.Democrac provides fertile soil for degeneracy and dangerous political thought. In a democracy people's views can not be oppressed, no matter how vile or evil they may be. Due to constitutional obligations of free speach and assembly people are allowed to gather together and angrily demand anything from a complete cut off of welfare to the legalization of pedophilia and there is nothing that the government can do to stop it. In order for a society to maintain strenght and prosperity traditional values must be upheld. In the U.S., champion of democracy we have slowly crept from being a conservative nation of white christians to a "melting pot" of ethnicities where social media and advertising slowly corode our core values.

Con

1. Democracy encourages debate, and leads to majority rule meaning over half of the population agrees with the decision made. [1] Dictorship establishes one unquestionable leader who has complete control over a nation, in which citizens have no ability to protect their rights without risking their lives (rebelling).

2. Real world appliance

Dictators are unchecked and have the ability to greatly abuse power. This is happened many times lately in world history and dictarors have killed millions of people.
- Mao killed over 45 million [2]
- Hitler killed over 12 million [3]
- Stalin killed over 20 million [4]
Meanwhile in countries that use some form of government with a democratic basis (such as US, Europe, and parts of Oceania) the HDI tends to be far greater than in countries with dictators (such as North Korea, and the middle east.) [5]

3. Decision making

Decisions are came to based of the cost-benefit analysis of the majority, not just one person. Because of this debate occurs, the only con is that time is used while debating occurs. However the decision that benefits the majority is made. [6]

Some benefits are:
- Voting rights
- Protection
- Basic freedoms (speech, religion, etc.)
- Due process

(Note: In order to be fair I avoided rebuttals, however I will refute my opponent's arguments in the next round.)
