I feel that Palpatine used mind tricks on Anakin. Anakin was for some reason too easily persuaded to just think it was a good idea to join the enemies he had been facing for much over ten years. Palpatine was dropping hints of being a Sith like nuts, and when Anakin could kill him, Palpatine decided not to, just tell WIndu that he thinks that he is a Sith and that we should get rid of him. WHen they go there, Palpatine is close to death when he talks to Anakin and he chops off Windu's hand. This has to be work of force persuasion.

Con

There's no evidence of force persuasion, and George Lucas has openly said that Anakin turned because of his love for Padme. Star Wars is about his moral struggle, not about brainwashing. Anakin turned Sith because the Jedi were preventing him from saving Padme.

George Lucas has said a lot of things. They haven't all been true.
GoldFyre

Con

That's not an argument. Everything George Lucas said about the first 6 movies was correct because he is the creator and final and most definitive version of what is canon. Unless Disney has changed canon to make Vader brainwashed (and you have given 0 evidence showing this), anything Lucas said stands. What Lucas said about Trump or Obama is immaterial; we are only discussing his descriptive statements about canon and not everything he has ever said

Reasons for voting decision: Pro concedes. It seems pretty difficult to win this resolution in light of the creator literally stating the opposite.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro dropped out, after making an assertion that incompetence doesn't happen on it's own, but rather it's actually mind control conspiracies. Con on the other hand offered a solid appeal to authority, an interview link or some such would have been nice, but again, pro did not dispute it, he just dropped out (there's good arguments to be made against Lucas, but they were not made... heck whatever force persuasion is was not even explained).
