Why do people want to risk their life to just send one message, that's the idea behind texting and driving and distracted driving. Any thoughts on this topic?

Pro

Thank you for instigating this debate, DaarMaad.

I affirm that distracted driving is a positive thing due to following case.

Affirmative Case

Definitions: Distracted Driving

"Distracted Driving" is defined by Wikipedia as: "the act of driving while engaged in other activities—such as looking after children, texting, talking on the phone or to a passenger, watching videos, eating, or reading" [1]. My arguments will be in accordance with this definition.

Premise: Time is valuable.

I declare it self-evident that time is valuable, based on its limited nature (in regards to human life).

Affirmative Arguments

Link: Efficiency

Distracted Driving is advantageous, in that limited time is better spent on more than one activity. For example, talking on a hands-free device, like the top ones listed at Boston.com, allows for people to drive *and* talk [2]. Compared to someone who merely drives, this is clearly more efficient. Thus, the positive result here is that time is saved.

Eating, in regards to driving, is also time-efficient, therefore is desirable. However, driving with an empty stomach has *also* shown to hurt concentration. Therefore, if you're hungry, you should drive distracted and eat, so as to improve your concentration [4].

Link: Talking has benefits

A 2006 study found that talking about negative experiences will lead to improved life satisfaction [3]. Therefore, it should be recommended that people talk in the car, because not only is it efficient, but it also has positive mental-health outcomes.

Conclusion

For the reasons outlined in my Affirmative Case, I offer you a fulfillment of the resolution, and a reason to vote Pro. Thank you.

Reasons for voting decision: Clear vote. Pro was the only one to fulfill her BOP by presenting an argument, presented a good case along with sources to make it factual enough to earn the sources point considering that con never even rebutted the reliability of such sources, and no arguments made by con with obviously loses him the debate.
