Most people use the Internet and texting on a daily basis, using all sorts of media. This creates an a view point that users are much more social than non-users. It connects people from different diversities and cultures allowing a for a bigger view of society.

Con

I will argue that cell phones do not make people more social.

The proliferation of smart phones has done the exact opposite of what Pro contends.

To see why guaging one's social interaction on their ability to access information and social media sites is a false assumption, we must examine social interaction.

Social interaction at its most basic, is "a process of reciprocal stimulation or response between 2 people."

On face value, it does indeed seem that social media sites promote social interaction. However, in many cases, much of the correspondence on social media sites includes a delayed response or is a one way message.

When it comes to accessing information on a smartphone, simply typing a query into google replaces our old methods for asking seeking information, namely, asking questions.

Another act to be aware of is the new phenomenom known simply as "phubbing" the act of "snubbing someone in a social setting by looking at your phone instead of paying attention".

All too often, we're more invested in checking our phones instead of being socially present in our physical setting. I'm sure most of us are familiar with the various photos depicting groups totally ignoring each other in favor of their smartphones.

Cell phones absolutely do not make people more social.

Reasons for voting decision: Con gave concise rebuttals to each of Pro's points, explaining that sociability can arise only in tangible face-to-face conference, which cell phones do not provide. Because Pro did not respond to these arguments, and forfeiting all following rounds, I vote Con.
