I think that you should not need a home schooling license just so you can home school. What if you are incredibly smart like Albert Einstien, but you don't have a home schooling license, and you can't send your child to school because it's too expensive?! If you are sick, your only resources to learn is the internet really. It isn't fair! If you live on the sreets, you can't home school because you woudln't have a license to do so, and obviously if you lived ont he streets, how would you get hold of the internet or school?

Thank you, Sanuhi, for instigating this debate. Since Sanuhi has instigated with an argument, I think it is only fair that I should be allowed to do the same.

Affirmative Case

A1: Keep paedophiles away from children

In my home state of NSW (in Australia), a working with children check is required in order to work with children [1]. This procedure is done to help prevent paedophiles from being near children, for the check evaluates things like criminal record and other factors that could put children at risk. Without this teaching license check, it would be far easier for paedophiles to get a hold of children. So, if you value children's safety, this kind of teaching license should be required.

Counter-arguments

"What if you are incredibly smart like Albert Einstien, but you don't have a home schooling license, and you can't send your child to school because it's too expensive?!"

This is a non-sequitur, which is a logical fallacy [2]. Why should school being too expensive mean that teachers should not require teaching licenses?

Another non-sequitur: being unable to attend school does not mean people should not require licenses to teach.
