Richard III was a Catholic King so it's only right he should have a Catholic burial. It doesn't matter what religion you are or if you even believe in God. The fact is Richard was a Catholic and should have the burial he would of wanted.

I understand pro's concerns that Richard III should be given a Catholic burial, but, archaeologically speaking, what precedent does this set for archaeological endeavour? Must we, then, give the remains of those caught in the ash of Pompeii a Roman burial? Must we give Viking remains a Norse burial? In truth, the precedent set would require the funerary rights of all deceased individuals throughout museums or institutions to that effect. Not only would it be impractical and expensive, but it would undermine our understanding of the past. With technological advances in the realms of biology, how could learn more from these remains when they are rotting in the ground? To bury Richard III could spell the destruction of important historical information and so too would be the case for all other remains we are, therefore, consigned to bury.

Moreover, to give Richard III a modern day Catholic burial would not necessarily mean that we would be giving him a Medieval Catholic burial. The Catholic Church has undergone much ecclesiastical change over the past centuries to the point where it would most likely be considered heretical by Medieval standards. Must we then get a Catholic priest to forsake his current beliefs and then take on the Medieval dogma which was the Church?

If one was to then argue that it should only be Richard who is buried, this would raise the question of why it should be only him. The only logical explanation for this would be because he was a King, but Kings hold no more primacy in their human rights than a homeless beggar. I do not believe that pro believes this, as they are arguing from a humanist point of view, but one can see that I am appealing to that standpoint to the effect of undermining their argument as a whole.
