I think minimum wage should be raised. It's been shown for it to be hard for people to live off the current minimum wage.

Con

I accept and await my adversaries first round.

Since I think my adversary may FF all rounds, I will wait to the last round or until he responds to post my contentions

I do not think my adversary will post an argument therefore I will wait to later to post a contention. No point in building a huge argument if every round is going to be ffed.

I am going to avoid posting a long contention about this, but just give a brief one

It will cut jobs

I could go into great detail about this but due to all the FFs its not necessary. Just take a fast food branch like burger king or McDonalds. If you were to raise employee cost up to 15 from 8. You are almost doubling their salary. Lets break down the math if you have ten employees working an eight hour shift

8 * 8 = 64 dollars a day per employee
64(per employee) * 10( number of employees) = a total of 640 dollars per day in labor costs

It is much different with this but this is just a basic demonstration.

Now do the math for 15 dollars an hour

15 * 8 = 120
120 ( per employee) * (10 employees) = 1200 total labor costs

The difference in between 1200 - 640 = 560

There is a 560 dollar increase to labor costs. Since the point of the branch is to make a profit and if they were operating under a certain number of people needed to run a shift there are a few options.

(1) you can cut jobs or hours to make up for the total labor cost
(2) raise food costs to offset the margin
(3) operate with less people needed per shift

If you need a certain number of people per shift and this is unavoidable, you are going to resort to raising the costs of products or cutting jobs and new hiring. Mix in the fact that full time employees now must be offered (x) healthcare accroding to the affordable care act (which is already stopping jobs), it will be a bad situation if it were to be implemented on a federal level.

Again it is much more indepth, but my adversary has FFed every round so this is all that is

Seeing that your opponent left, i'll debate for abit, all your points are good.
But! i counter them with basic economics, A business that raises it's prices to protect a gigantic profit margin are at risk to be undersold,
Mcdonald's can raise its prices by 10% 100% 200%
But a new hero can come into town and sell the food at the old prices, this store wont make massive profits, it'll make enough profit to survive and make a modest income, THEN it will outsell Mcdonald's volume and run them out of town by cutting their prices massivly ( 15$ minimal wage is a huge raise meaning massive price raises) Mcdonalds might make massive margins on their products but now, from not reacting to competition Mcdonald's is no longer a famous resturant lol, Capitlism is a varied beast and would actually help to enforce a minimal wage increase, The world is dog eat dog, and by clinging to massive profit margings, Mcdonalds is eaten alive by smart investors and opportunity seekers.

Reasons for voting decision: This is a basic thing taught in Economics. If you increase the minimum wage beyond the natural market rates, you will reduce the amount of money in circulation by either rising prices or cutting labor costs. And that, in general, is unhealthy for the economy.

Reasons for voting decision: FF... Nice points made by con in the final round, if earlier in the debate they would have counted for the argument points (not that such is even needed on an FF)
