People who actually save lives and risk their own should make more money than entertainers or athletes. Especially athletes such as some football players, who get payed millions of dollars a game, or catch.

Oh congrats u caught a footbal. A lot of people can catch footballs. But it actually takes an intense amount of skill and patience to cut someone open and navigate throgh their organs to remove a tumor or something.

Before we might argue that it is wrong for athletes and celebrities to be paid so much we must ask the question: what are professional athletes and celebrities?
What are they?
Professional athletes celebrities and the like can be classified as entertainers. Unlike common perception, the average professional athlete is paid less than the US median wage. They make about $40,060 per year[1] versus the median wage being $51,939 a year[2]. The average celebrity obviously makes more than an athlete, but the exact definition of what is a celebrity is hard to define. It is obvious you are talking about those that make tremendous amounts of money though, as in NFL players, movie stars, NBA players, etc. For this debate, in order to conform with what you seem to be discussing, I will be using the populace within the top 100 celebrity list[3], the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. For the purposes of this debate I shall use them as the "athletes and celebrities."

"Doctors/firemen/etc." I shall classify by the term civil service workers. This shall consist of doctors, policemen, teachers, fire fighters, and mailmen.

Why are they paid what they are paid?
Entertainers
In the case of professional sports players in our classification they make multimillion salaries. Athletes receive their payment from the industry; sports fans pay upwards of $400 per ticket. Among ticket sales, merchandise, advertisements, etc. The professional sports industry brings in billions of dollars a year. And this money is obviously going to go towards the people who brought it in -- the athletes. It goes not only towards the athletes, but to the sports departments and other staff as well, and guess what? Capping that pay isn't going to make your civil service workers get paid any more than they do now. It goes to the people who earned it. Taking away athletes' salaries won't fix your own. Simple as that. They don't get to pick their salaries, just as any other average person doesn't. The money is generated through the industry. The talent required to participate in professional sports is also rare and therefore in high demand. It takes a lot of effort and hard work for professional athletes to get where they are in their careers (and not all of them are pushed there by their parents -- horrible excuse). And lastly, pro athletes participate in difficult, competitive, and sometimes aggressive sports which can cause them to receive severe injuries. And unlike any average person, their injuries will cause them to lose their job, without question. They face risking their job every single time they work. Professional athletes get paid just what they deserve financially.[4]
Civil Service Workers
Like entertainers, civil service workers are paid based upon their own demand. Their are simply more of them than then entertainers, because face it, the talent is a lot more common. It is a lot harder to produce a grade A professional athlete than it is to produce a civil service worker. They are paid based upon the simple principle of supply and demand, just as the entertainers are. To remove the pay from entertainers, which rightfully earned it for their skill, and give it to civil service workers is simple communism on a scale that would be impossible to work with in the long run. Before long all the rest of the workers would be crying out for pay to, either causing a rush in civil service workers, or a general decay of this society as we know it. This is in no way viable.
