Yes, We have too many laws!
Obviously we should have laws dealing with murder, assault and theft, but do we need so many laws that deal with minor annoyances or lack of personal safety? It is efficient and polite for pedestrians to obey road signals, but should jaywalking be an offence and subject to fines? Think of the time and effort put into this minor infraction. Police must observe the offence, write a ticket, and appear in court if the ticket is challenged. Wouldn't their energy be better employed seeking real criminals?
In Vancouver, court time was taken up dealing with a complaint concerning parents who had built a backyard tree fort for their children. They didn't get a building permit first. Is this really a good use of court time? Do we really need a law to tell us to wear a helmet when riding our bikes, and not to eat too much junk food? Are young people less likely to smoke if the cigarettes are kept hidden in specially designed store shelves? Maybe we have taken the mandate to protect society to a ridiculous level and have arrived at a point when there are so many laws we are simply unable to enforce them.

Hello, I'm from Kazakhstan, and you know it's better to have many laws like you have, because there are enough laws in Kazakhstan, but fines are minor, and also it is not difficult to dissolve everything by calling uncle or other influential relative. So that's why I think it's better to have many laws. Look at your country, it is one of the most advanced and safest countries in the world, thanks to your laws. Yes, I agree that some silly laws should be prohibited, but by the way, it is better to have many laws to be a law-abiding citizen

As you know, laws protect us. They make us feel in a safe environment. But there are some laws that are just unnecessary and foolish. Consider this law, It's Illegal To Whistle in Petrolia, Ont. (Source: http://www.readersdigest.ca...), this law is just plain stupid because why is it illegal to whistle, what is the reason behind this law? They say it limits excessive noise but to me, just how loud can people whistle to the degree that it annoys someone? Secondly, if people are caught violating one of these "smaller" laws, like for example, there is a law in Sudbury, Ontario that makes it illegal to attach a siren on to your bike. Now, I'm not saying anyone would be foolish enough to put a siren onto their bike, but let's pretend that they did. Well, he/she would fight the law in court and if the person has really good arguments, the trial for that "one case" could last a long time and it would waste valuable court and police officers time because the police officers could use that time to catch real criminals instead of being in a dumb trial involving such a small law.
