This is meant to be a nice and short debate.
I believe impressionable children might grow to like witches from reading the Harry Potter books. When I read the Sorcerer's Stone I felt it made regular people look like brats, while the wizards were portrayed as a good, wise, kind, gracious, and joyful people. Just in general, I mean. I know there was a good witch and a bad witch, but for the most part, those with magic powers seemed more moral than those without. But whats wrong with a couple good witches? Its not neccessarily Satanic, right? Is witchcraft inherently wicked? The bible says it is, and the vast majority of people think of witches as bad, evil people. They generally have nasty green skin and ride brooms like Harry.

My opponent's argument is based primarily on opinion and does not bring any evidence that Harry Potter promotes satanic witchcraft. The Harry Potter series is merely fiction created to interest readers with an ingenious storyline. The Harry Potter series may contain characters that partake in "witchcraft," but it certainly does not promote satanic witchcraft. The series involves other ideals such as romance, courage, and bravery. As Pro and Instigator, my opponent has not provided real evidence to uphold his Burden of Proof. Harry Potter himself promotes strength, intelligence, and courage. Harry is more involved with friends, school, and sports as opposed to promoting witchcraft. Thank you.

He does not intentionally promote witchcraft, but simply by practicing magic, he promotes witchcraft. Millions of kids read these books. Odds are, many of them will attempt to practice magic and witchcraft, but if you do a basic google search on how to practice witchcraft, you get http://www.google.com.... Now, they see all of the ritualistic chanting and spells, which happen to be very similar to satan worship http://www.churchofsatan.com.... When you search "how to worship satan" you get the link I gave you. To go to the page I wanted you to see, you have to click on the theory-practices link on the left side of the page. Thank you.

My opponent states that Harry does not intentionally promote witchcraft, but by practicing magic, he promotes it. This statement does not make sense, for magic and witchcraft are completely different. My opponent's main argument is that the readers of the Harry Potter books will become greatly influenced to practice satanic witchcraft. However, this is illogical. After the Pirates of the Caribbean films were produced, millions of kids were hooked and wanted to become pirates like the main characters. Obviously, these kids grew out of the stage and did not become pirates; it was all hype. Same with Harry Potter. The series is simply for fun and interest. My opponent's sources only show random websites of witchcraft promotion. Negated.

if harry potter promoted satan, why would voldemort, who represents satan, lose in the end? if harry was bad, why would the main point at the end of the series be that love prevails over all evil?

To start with the headline for this is incorrect - satanic witchcraft does not exist. I have followed witchcraft for well over 30 years and do not have anything to do with Satan. Satan is a christian concept and has absolutely NOTHING to do with witchcraft, wicca at all. I wont go on about it but the connection that mis guided people make of this really annoys me.

Witchcraft does exist but satanic witchcraft does not - witches don't believe in satan.

Also, so what if kids start looking at books about magick? Oh no, there might be some strict xian parent who's kid ends up being a witch. Witches aren't bad or evil and unlike xians we don't go around telling people that what they believe is wrong and they have to believe as we do.

This entire argument is therefore pointless.

Since witchcraft does not exist, how could it be promoted? Pro offers and opinion and does not make a case. Moreover, the opinion makes no sense. One could argue that the fantasy has some bad practical consequence, but that require evidence of some sort.

Sorry, but any arguments that are backed up by the bible I don't think should be valid. The bible isn't of course accurate evidence so I was a bit turned off by ccstateisback's biblical reference. Also, I don't see any little children trying to study witchcraft from reading Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is male, so if anything, promotes wizardcraft. Last I checked, Hogwart's robes weren't an indicator of transgender preference either. :D

Logical black holes such as this are fast draining the light from our world.
