Homosexuality has evolutionary origin, can arise from a physical brain structure that differs from typical people, and has genetic roots as well.

To say that being Homosexual is a choice or not is a different issue. Something that is written in genetic code is not necessarily written in stone as shown by Atavism which is the tendency to revert to ancestral type. The fact that "Genes are turned on and off in different patterns during development..." can suggest that genetic switches should account for an ability to stray from a certain sexual preference.

-Argument one: The evolutionary origin of homosexuality

According to the sexual antagonism hypothesis being Gay is at least partially genetic. This is very possible because if attraction to men is a genetic trait then even if Homosexual people reproduced much less their female relatives would have this same gene which would lead to them reproducing more leaving Homosexuality as a trait that can easily find its way down a family tree. Past studies on select groups of samoan men (Fa"afafine) suggest that this hypothesis is accurate.

-Argument Two: Homosexuals generally have brains that are structured differently than heterosexuals.

With in the volume of four cell groups within the anterior hypothalamus (which helps dictate male sexual behavior) there is a cell group which contains more matter in males that are attracted to women than in males attracted to males and women attracted to males which suggest that this trait is dimorphic with sexual orientation in nature and "suggests that sexual orientation has a biological substrate"

This is one proven example in which homosexual brains appear physically different than heterosexual brains here are other examples explaining the differences between male and female brains ext.

This is a very interesting topic and I am glad to accept! However I have to note that I do not believe in evolution but because we are not arguing that subject I will just accept it as if it were fact for the sake of time and fun!
Just out of curiosity if your gender preference is decided by genetics how can there be bisexuals?
1.Re- evolutionary origin
If homosexuality was a genetic trait it would have been breed out by now seeing as homosexuals cannot produce children with other homosexuals. Also if homosexuality was natural then society would not reject it just like you don"t reject a person because they have brown hair while you have blond.
2.Re- Homosexuals generally have brains that are structured differently than heterosexual
This is an interesting point however the research shows that there are only differences in homosexual men and heterosexual men"s brain and no differences between homosexual women and heterosexual woman. This would lead us to think that there must have been another cause for the difference in size. I don"t know much about the hypothalamus but I do know that it interacts with hormones. Perhaps some men have hormones differences which cause their brains and body"s to be more feminine and because of their feminine nature they become homosexual.
Also la vey who was the Dr who completed the referenced study made a lot of mistakes during his experiment for instance according to this article http://downloads.frc.org...
"Another Anomaly of LeVay"s Study was the fact that three of the "heterosexuals" had brain clusters smaller than the mean size for the homosexuals. On the other hand, three of the homosexuals had larger clusters than the mean size for "heterosexuals." Thus, LeVay was forced to admit, "The existence of "exceptions" in the present sample (that is presumed heterosexual men with small INAH 3nuclei, and homosexual men with large ones) hints at the possibility that sexual orientation, although an important variable, may not be the sole determinant of INAH 3 size."

Also La Vay only used 16 heterosexual subjects and he wasn"t even completely sure that they were all heterosexual because 6 of them died from AIDS which is far more rampant in the homosexual society.

A lot of our tendencies come from hormones. For instance some people have a quicker temper because of genetics however there is a difference between homosexuality and anger. While anger is backed by hormones to incite or cool anger your preference in gender is not controlled by hormones. Hormones might cause one to be more or less sexual but hormones don"t say specially which gender you prefer.
Now I would like to present my own hypothesis.

1.If homosexuality is genetic then it isn"t just a preference
"Furthermore, if homosexuality were genetically transmitted, it would be inevitable, irresistible, and untreatable. Though many individuals and groups work hard to convince the public this is the case, such assertions are simply false. Prevention is effective; change is possible (although often difficult); ........ There is no refuting the fact that countless individuals have left the homosexual lifestyle and found wholeness in their new found heterosexuality."

This quotes sums it up pretty well. If homosexuality was genetic then a person would be homosexual or heterosexual there would be no going back and forth and there would be no bisexuals.

2.Homosexuality is psychological.
An Excerpt from the college textbook series "Opposing Viewpoints" in the article "Cause of Homosexuality:Poor Parent-Child Relationships" by Roy Masters explains :
"In many years of counseling, I have dealt with countless family situations conforming to the following pattern. Two boys are born into a dysfunctional family, composed of a cruel, confusing mother, and a brutal father (perhaps an alcoholic) who is rarely at home. Now, the anger and resentment which the (victim) mother feels for the father is unloaded on these boys. She unconsciously hates men, beginning with her own alcoholic father, but extending now to her husband - and becoming a cumulative traumatic experience for her sons. Because of the different dispositions and status of the two boys, one rebels from her control and one conforms. One way or the other, the boys have been traumatized away from their natural center, their true personhood.

There are many types of dysfunctional family disorders. One of them, of course, is overt homosexuality. The other is connected to the same pressures that cause homosexuality, but manifests in an entirely different way: "macho" behavior, a false masculinity that is a compensating overreaction to feelings of vulnerability and latent femininity."
This example explains how children react to dysfunctional families. It doesn"t have to be so dysfunctional as the one painted in this example it could just be a disapproving father or anything which harms their relationship. The article "ex-ay advocate claims homosexuality is caused by parental abuse" says:
"There are also two forms of psychological trauma commonly associated with homosexuality. The first is the trauma caused by the child"s subjective experience of the same-sex parent"s lack of availability, rejection, or even harsh verbal, physical, or sexual attack. This may lead to an intense longing for love from the same-sex parent that is eventually sexualized by the child. Similarly, psychological trauma may also be caused by the child"s subjective experience of the opposite-sex parent"s lack of availability, rejection, or even harsh verbal, physical, or sexual attack. This may lead to an intense fear of and aversion toward opposite-sex relationships. In both situations, by objective standards, the parent may or may not be described in these terms."
Not only does it make sense but before the idea that they were born this was pushed by the media many homosexuals thought they were the way they are because of outside influences.
"Two large studies asked homosexual respondents to explain the origins of their desires and behaviors " how they "got that way." The first of these studies was conducted by Kinsey in the 1940s and involved 1700 homosexuals. The second, in 1970, involved 979 homosexuals.3 Both were conducted prior to the period when the "gay rights" movement started to politicize the issue of homosexual origins. Both reported essentially the same findings: homosexuals overwhelmingly believed their feelings and behavior were the result of social or environmental influences."
"What Causes Homosexual Desire and Can It Be Changed?" at http://www.familyresearchinst.org...
Because homosexuality is so dependent on outside influences and because there is no physical differences between homo and heterosexual brains we must see that homosexuality does not have genetic origins.
Thanks for the challenge!
