Does Social Media creates stronger connections?

A few definitions first.

Social media is hard to clearly define. - http://en.wikipedia.org...
"Kaplan and Haenlein created a classification scheme in their Business Horizons (2010) article, with six different types of social media: collaborative projects (for example, Wikipedia), blogs and microblogs (for example, Twitter), content communities (for example, YouTube and DailyMotion), social networking sites (for example, Facebook), virtual game worlds (e.g., World of Warcraft), and virtual social worlds (e.g. Second Life). Technologies include: blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, crowdsourcing and voice over IP, to name a few. Many of these services can be integrated via social network aggregation platforms."

We may want to narrow the definition for our debate to a few specific examples of social media. This may be what you were thinking of in the first place. I"m OK with Kaplan"s and Haenlein"s classification, but I think Voice over IP stretches the definition past where we want to go.

From dictionary.com CREATE verb (used with object)
1. to cause to come into being, as something unique that would not naturally evolve or that is not made by ordinary processes.

I propose using definition #1

By "stronger connections" I am presuming you mean better and more positive connections.

Also, to give proper opportunity to refute all arguments, lets use round 5 only to summarize our points. No new arguments in round 5

Social media creates opportunities.
Social media relationships tend to be superficial rather than deep.
Bullying and other unhealthy relationships thrive over social media.

Hi!

Social media give many opportunities for connections.

My experience is that:
mature people use it wisely.
immature people not so much.

Social media are particularly helpful in keeping in touch after a move ore separation.
Social media can also be abuse in bullying, crazy drama and i-stalking.

The net effect of social media tends to be more wide ranging and more shallow connections.
Long term personal contact tends to give deeper connections.
