Violence in the media can effect what kids think about. Sometimes after hearing or seeing something violent, that is all you can think about! Violence in the media can also inspire kids to do the things they see in the media.

Violence in the media does not affect violent crime rates, as while more violence is being shown in the media, violent crime is going down (1). Additionally, video games are not impacting violent crime rates because one of the first violent video games, Mortal Kombat, was created in 1993, while crime rates have become drastically lower in that time. The only people typically affected by violence in the media are those who are mentally ill, and are extremely susceptible to having that false world become their new reality. On the topic of reality, the reason it is perceived that violent crime is up, is because the media shows more violence that it used to. Usually, children who perform acts of violence due to media are those who have other problems, such as a psychological disorder. In fact “a longitudinal study published this year by Ferguson and colleagues,7 which followed 165 boys and girls (aged 10 to 14 years) over 3 years, found no long-term link between violent video games and youth aggression or dating violence.” (2)

Kids are easy to persuade into doing stuff from the Internet such as challenges on YouTube, Facebook,Twitter, and SnapChat.
Recent research has also shown that connections between children playing violent video games can cause later aggressive behavioral problems.

While some children will do challenges off of the internet, they also know the difference between what happens on a screen and in real life. They know that what people do on the news is wrong, and it is described as that. Also, there is a difference between pouring a bucket of cold water on yourself and stabbing someone. Additionally, you fail to provide a source to back up your claim of connections to aggressive behavior and violent video games.

Everyone who watched a Shakespeare play in person went home and stabbed someone with a sword. It is a 100% historic fact.
