I'm going to be arguing that dogs are better companions than cats.

My reasons for believing this are as following:
1. Dogs can be heroes.
Not only do dogs have the ability to sense when their owner is in danger and help them, seizure-alert dogs can detect and warn their owner when they are about to have a seizure. They are also often used to find missing people, detect bombs and drugs, and track down criminals.

2. Dogs make you laugh.
In a pilot study done by the Animals and Society Institute, they discovered that out of 95 people, the dog owners laughed significantly more frequently than cat owners.

3. Dogs keep us fit.
In a study from 2008, it was discovered that dog owners were 60% more likely than cat owners to walk for leisure. In a more recent study from Michigan State University, it was found that dog owners exercise an average 30 more than "non-owners" each week.

4. Dogs are man's best friend.
Because there is an undeniable connection between us. A study from 2013 showed that the relationship between a dog and its owner is similar to that of a child and his parent.

While indisputable the relationship between "Man" and "pet" goes beyond just the term "pet owner." Cats are better than Dogs because: 1.) Cats cost significantly less than Dogs when it comes to supporting their overall welfare. 2.) Cats are natural hunters of rodents 3.) Cats aren't as demanding of attention as a dog 4.) Cats have stronger genetic heritage than Dogs 4.) Cats are just as effective as Dogs when it comes to companionship.

When you adopt a Cat, it just as much a part of the family as anyone else. They are loving, loyal, and playful. Cats won't bowl you over, or bark at your house guests when you enter the door. They keep your house free of pests, and will comfort you without the burden of activity. Cats just costs less, and produce the same joys as a dog can. Though dogs will protect their "masters," only certain breeds of dogs are actually capable of doing anything about intruders, or people with disabilities. Cats also provide a form of relief with people who suffer from anxiety attacks, or panic disorders, as well as bipolarism (see reference 5).

Yes, it is true that cats cost less, help with small pests, and are less demanding, but what does this have to do with their companionship? A companion is defined as "a person or animal with whom one spends a lot of time or with whom one travels" (Google "definition of companion"). Nothing in that definition explores its usefulness or cost.

Service dogs go everywhere with you. You are never alone or without your companion. And even if you don't have a service dog, you can take them many places with you. Your cat would likely not respond well to you trying to put a leash on it. They are also naturally understanding and comforting to humans.

Dogs are also great workout companions. When you have a dog, you have a reason to exercise more. And as for making us laugh, studies have shown the innumerable benefits of laughing and that it may even prolong your life.

It's true that for anyone who is more financially or time-restrained, cats may be better. Also, to refute your claim that "Cats won't bowl you over, or bark at your house guests when you enter the door", I argue that dogs can be trained out of this. With the right amount of effort and focus, dogs can learn not to do this. Dogs can understand and learn to obey you.

But as a companion, these are the reasons dogs are superior.
