Young men who barely look old enough to be holding a gun are fighting for our country and risking their lives everyday. Yet you are going to tell me they can't crack a beer open after fighting all day in the hot desert and being shot at? That hardly seems fair. If these men and women are allowed to leave their homes in America for months and even years at a time, have the power to shoot and kill people, go on covert operations, and be put in the line of fire, they rightly deserve to engage in drinking. If our country thinks that 18 year olds are capable of all of the above, then they should certainly be responsible enough to drink.
This is pretty simple to be honest. We tried it before and it did not work. It was lower with the lowering of the voting age. What we clearly saw was a raise in drunk driving victims. Young people are idiots and make dumb decisions. There is a difference between the select few serving in the military with heavy training and disciple verses the general youth who pay more for car insurance for a reason. The drinking age is also not a federal law. The drinking age is set to 21 by each state. Because of this, drinking related deaths have dropped significantly.
