The topic of this debate will be the existence of religions. I don't mean any one religion, but all of them collectively, and whether or not their role has been played. This will NOT be about whether or not god is real, or which religion is right. As the topic says, I want a religious person to argue AGAINST religion, as I am an atheist arguing FOR it. This will (hopefully) be more fun than a run-of-the-mill religious debate where everyone has run out of arguments because you can't prove non-existence.

Sounds like a good experiment

Religion has no benift to society whatsoever. It is a form a coeration by a preisthood or other institution to control society. A religious institution always tries to control its followers. Islamic clerics gain power through the unquestioning fanacism of their followers. The Vatican controls many world affairs. While some people cant submit to government authority they give up freedoms to religious institution.

I am surprised that my opponent has forfeited every round of a debate he started. This shows he knows his position so little he can't argue against it.

@Guidestone yeah hopefully it will keep the old arguments out of it and maybe bring in some new ones :/
@philochristos yeah you're probably right judging from how nobody has responded

Although I like the idea of two people having a debate in which each tries to defend the other person's point of view and refute his own, I think the topic for this debate is just too broad.

So it is a debate about organized religion where you take the opposite side?
