This debate will abide by all rules set by the website & will allow for discussion of such a topical issues within guidelines. I would like my opponent in this debate to outline his/her full argument as a starting round to which I shall respond & counteract with my own points. Such a starter should be in as great a detail as possible with references used highlighted & appropriate terminology defined & explained. I wish this to be an interesting & complex yet relevant debate in the current climate.

Economic growth is good ceteris paribus. Of course, it's rare for any economic growth to come about ceteris paribus, so you have to weigh the changes in question (whether they have negative or positive value as per some predefined end; note: loose consequentialism where the end doesn't justify the means - means are inherently part of some other end...) against economic growth, and then decide whether it's worth the opportunity cost...

That's the debate right there, aside from the connotations of 'idol' .

Is the point of this debate to show that economic growth doesn't benefit people (for the Pro side)?
