So the question is what is better: education abroad or education in your motherland?

In my opinion, education in motherland is much better.

First of all, you feel calm and safe whereas in unknown country you are under the endless stress. And here lies the culture shock. You face different problems - another country, people, rules, traditions, food, manners, customs, laws, values and etc. This problems crush on you in one single moment and you can't think about education anymore. Stress leads to anxiety, panic disorders, depression, paranoia and other phobias. Any mental problems may become even harder with time.

Secondly, money, money and money. Nothing is free. Studying abroad can be really expensive. And I am not talking about the cost of education itself, I am talking about additional expenses like food, residence, flights home and back... Moreover, most countries do not allow foreign students to have a part time job so you need to have some money before you arrive.

This is two main things I wanted to raise. Of course, there are others such as a necessity of learning a second language, risk of losing touch with your family and friends, danger to meet suspicious people, differences between universities and so with credits, reversal culture shock and many others.

What is your opinion?

The debate could not be removed. It will be continued.

1. Safety is not universal

Pro claims that you feel more calm and safe in your motherland. This is often far from the truth. If you're from Afghanistan or Somalia, not only would you feel safer in every European country, but your education will progress better. If you're a female in these countries, chances are you're better of not even thinking of getting an education. "These days, it takes more than textbooks and pencils to be a schoolgirl in Afghanistan - it also takes tremendous bravery and tenacity." [1] Clearly it is not in everyone's safety interests to be educated in their native lands.

2. Cultural diversity is a norm

I find Pro's argument on this point weak. In some countries, cultural diversity might not be a very positive thing -- But in Europe, for example, most countries have nothing against students who bring their cultures with them. What's more, if students weren't already prepared for experiencing other cultures (including people, laws, etc.,), I doubt they'd want to study abroad in the first place. In fact, by experiencing other cultures it might motivate you a lot more to study. If you are student of religion, political science, or anything of the like, studying abroad means you open your mind more toward people who are different, and probably gain an insight to their beliefs.

3. Cost is not a problem

My opponent brought expenses into the debate. It might be costly to study abroad -- On the other hand, it might be more costly to study in your native land. For example, if you're from Sweden and study as an exchange student in Bosnia, chances are you'd be much more well-off financially. The cost of everyday needs is significantly lower in Bosnia than in Sweden. [2] If you're from Denmark and study abroad, you'd not only benefit from cheaper everyday needs in most other countries, but you'd probably be getting student grants by the state - on top of whatever else you earn through work. [3]

Lastly, Pro has offered no substantial arguments. Personal opinions are not facts. If he believes that most students face the horrors he refers to, I look forward to evidence for that.

On the one hand, I think that you are right, but on the other hand - studing abroad is a really good. When human studing abroad he can learn a lot of really usefull things. For example, to be responsible and independent person without your mim that will cook for you, without your dad that can give you money every time. Don't you think so?
