Lookingattheissues comments about Edward Snowden who fled to Russia.... posted on DEBATE.org.. under debate.. under POLITICS..Nov.15Th.2015
A different thought about Edward Snowden was suggested by this posted topic," Edward Snowden: American Traitor or Hero?
Posted on November 20, 2013 by Derek Whitely
Edward Snowden had made a decision to expose what he knew about some of America's efforts in protecting the country from terrorist attacks and their activities and connections in this country.
As a results of his exposing the methods of the agencies responsible for America's safety were using, Edward Snowden had to leave America or face the consequences of what many considered his betrayal of his country. Edward Snowden himself, has now had plenty of time to think more about his actions and whether he had made a mistake turning against his country and then seeking refuge in Russia but now wishes to be allowed to return to America, the country he betrayed. Edward Snowden turned his back on America and has became as a writer, Edward Hale, once wrote about in his book, has became, "A Man Without A COUNTRY." Edward Snowden might be thinking now like American Army lieutenant Philip Nolan one said when reflecting on his duties to his country," No matter what happens to you, no matter who flatters you or who abuses you, never look at another flag, never let a night pass but you pray to God to bless that flag. Remember,... that behind all all these great men you have to do with, behind officers, and government, and people even, there is the country herself, your country, and that you belong to her as you belong to your own mother. Stand by her,.... as you would stand by your mother.Stand by her...."
quotes from,"The Man Without a Country" is the story of American Army lieutenant Philip Nolan, who renounces his country during a trial for treason and is consequently sentenced to spend the rest of his days at sea without so much as a word of news about the United States.
Edward Snowden: American Traitor or Hero, I am saying that I believe that he was and is a traitor who has now realized just what he has done and longs to return to the country that he turned his back on. Do you agree with me or think Edward Snowden was a Hero for what he did.

Hello. I have researched this topic very heavily, and am excited to debate this with you. While the topic of protecting the country is a hot one, we need to inform the people what our country is doing to "protect our country."

*My first argument entails government.
The United States is a democratic republic.
The definition of a democratic republic is: "A country that is both a republic and a democracy. It is one where ultimate authority and power is derived from the citizens, and the government itself is run through elected officials."

Now let's look at Russia.
Russia is run by communism.
The Definition of Communism is: "A way of organizing a society in which the government owns the things that are used to make and transport products (such as land, oil, factories, ships, etc.) and there is no privately owned property."

So, we're on the same page on the definitions of those governments hopefully.

What's the difference in governments you ask?
A democratic republic is a government run by the people for the people.
Communism is a government run by the government for the government.

In Communism, nothing gets voted on. (legislations, elections,etc.....) Sometimes they are "voted on", but thats all fake..
In a Democratic Republic, everything is decided by the people or their legislators.

The people need to be informed of everything going on in the government in a democratic republic since it is a government run by the people for the people.

{If my first argument doesn't convince you, maybe my second argument will.}

*My second argument is that in the 4th Amendment in the Constitution of the United States, it says: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

This supports any arguments that say the United States are illegally monitoring us because:

1. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land.
And,
2. It fully states that wire tapping, arbitrary arrests, and searches are illegal unless they have a warrant.

Some people argue that the U.S. shouldn't need a warrant for preventing terror attacks and "protecting us", but are they calling us all terrorists then? When do we start drawing the line on infringement of the people?

How does that make you feel that the U.S. is watching everything you say, do, text, etc..
Isn't that what communism does?? Controls the people???

While I am completely for protecting this country and monitoring possible terrorists, there needs to be accountability. Imagine if we never found this info out about what the U.S. was doing? If they could get away with this, what next are they gonna do? Make it illegal to speak against the government or president? Make it treason to report anything that goes against anything that the government doesn't believe.

Does this sound like any country/ countries?? (2 come to mind.)
1. Russia. They live in complete poverty and are puppets..
2. England in the 1700s. WAIT! Didn't we declare independence from them because of that?

People like Snowden are heroes because they are checks and balances in the government. They keep the government accountable.. If you don't think the U.S. needs checks and balances, check the Constitution... Starting in Article 1...

Pro please state your next argument and rebuttal.

Thanks :)

Lookingattheissues comments DEC.9Th.2015 Subject,"Edward Snowden: American Traitor or Hero."
Edward Snowden's actions of revealing America's secrets to the enemy Falls under the classification of Treason and according to a Wallstreet Journal article by Seth Lipsky on June 16th. 22013 wrote that even John Boehner said on a talk show that he also thought that what Edward Snowden did made him a traitor and amounted to Treason against his country. "
"...the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Dianne Feinstein, deemed his revelation of U.S. surveillance methods an "act of treason."
"... Edward Snowden,... worked as a contract employee at the U.S. National Security Agency, in Hong Kong...."The Guardian newspaper. The very name of the United States agency which Edward Snowden worked in," U.S. National Security Agency, relates the nature and importance of the agencies work. The very nature of the agency's work was to obtain timely information that was vital to the security of the nation and to dwarf enemy plans they might be plotting to harm the country and its citizens.
Edward Snowden not only aided and abetted the enemies of America, but he sought refuge in a country, Russia, that has a long history of having their spys actively working and embedded in America's government and educational institutions seeking to undermine the country and its government.
Edward Snowden choose his country well to escape to in the full knowledge of Russia's attitude towards his country when he made his escape to Russia, He understood that he and America's secrets would be welcomed by the countries enemy. Edward Snowden a Hero, That is not what I would call someone who exposed the countries secrets which needed to remain secret, to protect the country from its enemies.
