What came first, the chicken or the egg? This is a very old question. I want to debate on it. The egg came first from the time of the dinosaurs. The chicken came later on.

According to the Bible, God created "the animals", not the eggs first, and because the Bible tells me so, it is all the proof that I need.

Well, according to science and paleontology, the dinosaurs were here way before animals or the chicken was around. Dinosaurs lay eggs and so the egg came first. Also just because the Bible says God created animals first doesn't mean it is true. If it is, how do you explain about the dinosaur eggs. Those egg fossils are much bigger than any chicken nowadays.

Since you've taken it upon yourself to invalidate my argument by questioning the truthfulness of my source, I will consider my initial argument a victory and now pursue the same success using science and logic to undermine your own arguments, as opposed to calling the validity of either fields of science and paleontology into question.

<>

I also feel compelled to clarify that the "very old question" of 'The Egg or The Chicken' refers specifically to the chicken egg and not to the dinosaur egg, as everyone in general is in agreement on that. Why you would incorporate that into both of your arguments has still eluded me, unless you mean to point out the fact that animals that come from eggs came from eggs long before the existence of chickens can be confirmed.

The chicken had to be in existence before an egg could be hatched, as their eggs require a mother chicken to keep an egg warm in order for it to hatch.

A chicken egg is the egg that only a chicken lays.

A chicken egg will hatch a chicken and was laid by a chicken.

Therefore, both the chicken and egg must have always existed.

Again, you have invalidated my source, which would fully explain how this argument plays out, I now invite you to use your sources to refute my claims above that have nothing to do with the Bible.

"If there has been a first man he must have been born without father or mother -- which is repugnant to nature. For there could not have been a first egg to give a beginning to birds, or there should have been a first bird which gave a beginning to eggs; for a bird comes from an egg." - Aristotle (384-322 BC)

What you say is true, but more than just chickens hatch eggs. Also the question was "What came first, the chicken or the egg?" Not "What came first, the chicken or the chicken's egg". Just because the question involves a chicken and an egg doesn't necessarily mean the egg in question is a chicken egg. You just implied that that the egg was from a chicken. I never even mentioned a chicken egg. I just said egg. In your argument, "If there has been a first man he must have been born without father or mother -- which is repugnant to nature. For there could not have been a first egg to give a beginning to birds, or there should have been a first bird which gave a beginning to eggs; for a bird comes from an egg." - Aristotle (384-322 BC)" it says a bird must give a beginning to an egg. That is true, but Aristotle never mentioned the kind of egg that is to give forth a bird. That bird can be any species.

Your opening argument read: <> Stating that "This is a very old question" implies you're engaging in the age old debate, not arguing a pointless topic about dinosaurs eggs. You're trying to use obfuscation and trickery to distort the nature of the debate, as you see defeat is imminent. I see right through your shallow attempts to argue a moot point. Using the ambiguity of your statements to your advantage is not an effective debating maneuver.

Also, you squandered Round 3 doing that Dance of Denial and making a ridiculous attempt to bend the meaning of Aristotle's words to your own end, in which you failed.

The egg did not come before the chicken, as you weren't able to prove it, Biblically or Scientifically. Thanks for the debate!

I can't believe am actually joining in here but,the egg came first. Whatever mutation happened which produced chickens as know them today happened in the formation of the embryo; in other words, inside the egg.

no the chicken came first,
Scientifically if everything evolved from pond scum then the moving creature came first which eventually have the genetic difference of reproducing children in the egg first. There for the metaphorical chicken wins.
Biblically the bible never says how they were created just that they were therefore we dont know if they were eggs or chickens

You're right, but I'm hesitant to do so for some unknown reason.

solo, you could just post a challenge and use that for a debate.

I'm in absolute agreement with you. The egg definitely came first.

I don't know why, but for some reason, I don't seem to get to accept any debate challenges where I'm actually supporting my own views. It's cool, but it'd be nice if I could actually "feel" what I was debating about.

But also, I'll vote for solo since phunkyboy did not argue my point. What phunkyboy did was a fallacy of ambiguity, which destroys his argument since he based his entire three arguments on this fallacy.

The egg came first. The modern, evolved chicken that we know today came from a line of chickens and eggs until the very first egg. The chicken who laid that egg was not the modern chicken, since she laid an egg with a certain genetic mutation that became the chicken of today. And that chicken with the genetic mutation came from an egg.
