Pro

When a person is terminally ill they should be entitled to end their own life.
IamZero

Con

Thanks for posting this challenge! I hope you will find it fun debating with me.
Here are some arguements against euthanasia:
1. It devalues human life.
2. It can become a means of healthcare containment.
3. Medical care should not be directly caused in the death of an individual.

Debate Round No. 1
aboruch

Pro

Here are some points why euthanasia is beneficial:
-Eases the patient's pain and helps end their suffering.
- When a person is not in a condition to perform any physical tasks, experience any emotions, and is physical pain, why should a person like this continue to live in pain? Euthanasia should be an extension of patient's rights allowing him/her to decide the value of life and death.
IamZero

Con

If a person wants to end their life, that is their problem. However, If we hospitals use euthanasia, that will lead us down a slippery slope.
Soon, we will be using euthanasia on the elderly, mentally retarded people, or anyother people we consider to not be a help to society.
It's also against the hippocratic oath, which states, "I will not give poison to anyone though asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a plan."

Pro

It am not saying it's for people we don't see fit to help society because than of course everybody would be offing themselves. Euthanasia would be beneficial to those who are terminally ill and who are in pain. These people should have the choice whether or not to end their own life. In addition the oath yes states that doctors should practice medicine ethically. . but each doctor must have different ethics? or ethics mean different things to different doctors?
IamZero

Con

If everbody was free to make their own ethics, we would be doomed.
I know you don't think euthanasia could be used for bad, but if it's legal for suicide, it will be legal for other uses later on. And no euthanasia doesn't exactly keep people from committing suicide...

I just want to point out that some people believe that Euthanasia is a form of suicide which is forbidden in some religion

Reasons for voting decision: Willful killing of yourself even if your life is terrible is wrong. IAmZero used a source, aboruch used none. Aboruch had better grammar.

Reasons for voting decision: this was actually a pretty close debate. Con wins on where a line needs tobpe drawn.

Reasons for voting decision: This debate should have gone much more in depth. As it stands, both sides basically just stated their opinions and provided no real facts for or against.

Reasons for voting decision: Cone could have done much mroe with this; but he didn't touch pro's points and had no warrants why euthanasia leadds to a slippery slope. No points for sources because Con didn't actually analize his sources, he just threw them out there.

Reasons for voting decision: Both debaters could use some work. I was close to marking a tie for convincing arguments, but I realized aboruch did not refute IamZero's points. Pro's argument was very hard to understand, therefore Con received the grammar vote. Con doesn't get sources because his own source argues both sides.
