MrGr3y

Pro

"The Fermi paradox (or Fermi's paradox) is the apparent contradiction between high estimates of the probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilization and humanity's lack of contact with, or evidence for, such civilizations." This looses me when it assumes we would have the ability to 'obtain' said evidence of said "Observers/Visitors". Thoughts?
Zarroette

Con

I thank MrGr3y for instigating this debate.

My opponent, since being Pro, is required to affirm the resolution: Fermi paradox - Have we been observed/visited? So, my opponent must affirm that we have either been observed or visited by "extraterrestrial civilisation", as my opponent elaborates later in his/her clarification.

I await my opponent's opening arguments.
Debate Round No. 1
MrGr3y

Pro

MrGr3y forfeited this round.
Zarroette

Con

Despite my opponent yet to fulfil his burden of proof, I will still make an argument.

Negative Case

The famous Drake Equation, when applied to this galaxy, esitmates this (at best, very low numbers) [1][2]:

It would also take too much fuel and potential aliens live too far away to assume that space travel like that is possible [2].

Therefore, there is almost zero chance of alien having visited us.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct - Con. Pro forfeited multiple rounds in this debate which is rarely acceptable conduct. S&G - Tie. Both had proper spelling and grammar where applicable. Arguments - Con. Pro failed to present any supporting arguments whatsoever beyond the first round. This left Con standing unchallenged. Thus, Con wins arguments. Sources - Con. Pro failed to utilize any sources within this debate whereas Con did. This is a clear win for Con.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro ff a round, so conduct to Con. Pro didn't offer any arguments, so arguments to Con. Only Con had sources.

Reasons for voting decision: FF. Good to see someone actually using someone forfeiting to their advantage, via proceeding with the debate. From the second source, I loved the "Actual photo of aliens at Area 51."
