The American Flag is an honored symbol of our country. But over time, if a flag is constantly flown, the flag becomes worn out and tattered. How do you properly retire such an important thing? If you ask any military personnel they will all tell you the same thing, "The proper way to retire the National Colors is to burn them." If a law is passed to prohibit the burning of the United States flag, how will we then retire the colors? Would you rather throw it into the trash amongst rotten and disgusting garbage? And if you keep all of those old "retired" flags where will they be stored? Museums won"t be able to take them all, and even if they did, eventually there would be no room for more. So, once again, you have a choice. Burn the retired flags through a proper ceremonial process, or throw them in the garbage.

The flag burning amendment, is a controversial proposed constitutional amendment to the United States Constitution that would allow the United States Congress to prohibit expression of political views through the physical desecration of the flag of the United States. The concept of flag desecration continues to provoke a heated debate over protecting a national symbol, protecting free speech, and protecting the liberty represented by a national symbol.

The American flag, represents more than 200 years of our history and has come to be the visible symbol which embodies our Nation. disrespectful to our nation.

For one, your arguement makes no sense. Two, it is more disrespectful to throw the flag in the trash amongst the rotting garbage and nastiness.

The reason why this is a problem is that many anti-American groups in the Middle East have been burning US flags. Here are step by step directions: http://www.itstactical.com...

anonymouse that's how the world works. The most powerful countries will be able to do whatever they want. Now stop insulting americans. You are really annoying with your racism.

well you got to remember what the american flag stands for- the genocide of native americans, and taking of land by force.

PRO's argument doesn't make sense. This debate is also silly.

Pro you are talking about two COMPLETELY different things here. One is the ceremonial and appropriate means of retiring our National Symbol properly and respectively. The other is a bunch of arsehole hippies and jerk wads desecrating and destroying said flag to try and promote thier ignorant and BS hippie ways. Trying to compare the two as the same thing is ridicules. And arguing that if a law was enacted prohibiting the desecration of our flag it would mean that we would no longer be able to respectively and properly retire our flag and instead would have to result to throwing it in the trash. There's 0 logic or merit in this debate.
