I argue that the Gaia Theory, which essentially states that the earth can be considered a living organism, has ethical legitimacy and has scientific and observational merit. I do not argue or take a position on whether the theory should be taken figuratively or literally.

It is my pleasure to accept the challenge put forth in this debate. During this round, I will not put forth an official argument, only agreeing to demonstrate the lack of merit the Gaia Theory presents. I do wish, however, for this debate to be grounded in the literal interpretation of the Gaia Theory: that the actual earth is a living organism. I shall wait for Pro to establish an official case before bringing forth one of my own.

I hope Pro might agree to some ground rules as well: both sides should have the burden of proof. Furthermore, Wikipedia is not a source. You can use it to link to other sources, but Wikipedia (or Yahoo answers or any such websites) is not permitted. Is this fair for Side Pro?

I eagerly await Side Pro's first argument.
