I will be arguing that gay marriage should be legalized. I am giving us each 72 hours since I will have limited time for research and rounds. First round is acceptance. Any sources can be used, as long as they can be linked and viewed on the Internet or can be quoted, like the Bible or a study. Please no trolling. If so, I will end the debate.

Gay Marriage is defined as

The state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage"

@ Subgenius, I have my plate full but I intend to issue the challenge. Alternatively you may challenge me as this would give me the time I need to wrap up some of the more involved debates I am in before accepting.

It already is legal, so I don't get the point of the title. There is a difference between benefits retained by marriage and the act of marriage. No one prevents gays from getting married.... it's just not recognized by every state government. Lastly, I made the assumption you were talking about legalization in the states. Where should it be legalized?

Certainly not. But marriage does.

Gay marriage centres itself not in the issue of letting homosexuals have their "rights" but the definition of marriage is at stake. People will need to understand that the implications of same-sex marriage, if allowed, its consequences would be nigh-inevitable. If two people of the same sex can marry and if marriage is all about "love", why not allow a man to marry a child or two children marry or woman marry her pet? With the proper definition of marriage erased of being one man and a woman, what is left of marriage is nothing but a conventional relationship status not dissimilar to girlfriend/boyfriend relationships.

I'd accept this but only after understanding whether or not you're saying that Gay Marriage should be adopted as a legal relationship status or that Marriage itself should be legally redefined to include same sex couples.
